Advice on Party & Alcohol

    Hi there,

I have a birthday coming up (the type that ends in a zero) and I've just decided to have a house party. I'm looking for advice on how much alcohol I will need as I have never done anything this size before.

Guest: 60ish. 10% in their 50's and 60's, largest bulk in their 40's and the rest in their mid 30's.

    Non-drinkers: maybe 7.

Serving: Beer and Wine (red/white/rose) with a small amount of Stout and Cider.

Advice appreciated. I just followed the bargain alerts thread, but again, and suggestions on the most cost effective way to go about this also welcome.

Lidl and Aldi beers and wines are really cheap.People would drink anything once they're getting it for nothing i find! Have a good one.

    Beer: keg.

Kegs are quite expensive relative to cans, extra hassle, need glasses, and can be messy. If you go down the route of plastic glasses more people would probably sooner drink out of a bottle.

I would not get budweiser, many non-drinkers figure its popular. Most bud drinkers would drink another beer but fans of other beers would not touch bud.

Some offies and supermarkets will give you drink on a sale or return basis.

Many people will also bring drink themselves, even if told there will be booze there.

You have no spirits mentioned, they don't go off so will keep. I would at least get some vodka, tesco have stolichnaya & absolut both on offer now for €20 a 700ml bottle. I would regard both as being far better than smirnoff red (25.59 in tesco at the moment). Lidl vodka is meant to be grand too.

Thanks for that. I didn't realise there was a sale or return option!

Wouldn't dream of serving Bud either. Horrible, horrible beer.
