    Hi,

Posting this on behalf of my mother. She took an early redundancy/retirement package at the end of last year and in early January she applied for the top slicing tax relief at the local revenue office.

Does anyone know what the average length of time it is that it takes for the application to be processed etc.

    Thanks all

Top slicing was removed in the last budget, but it may still be available to people that took their redundancy before Decembers budget.

It can take from weeks to months, depending who you get in the revenue

Hi, yeah the company in question offered this package in autumn last year with the goal that staff would be phased out early this year. Then when the budget was announced they contacted revenue to make sure that the employees could avail of it and staff all had their last days pushed forward to the end of December in order to ensure that.

Would location of the office have an effect on how fast an application is processed? For example we are in the midlands, so would it be quicker than a city based revenue office?

In my experience, it took me 6 months to get mine, others in the company got theirs in 3-6 weeks, one other guy was told there was no such thing. It really did depend on who you got at the end of the line.

In my case I threw an absolute fit on the phone to get it sorted in the end, got the money 3 days later.

The best bet Is to ring the revenue in Dublin and ask them. Different parts of the country seem to take longer.

Edit: the guy who had the problems went to the revenue in trim I think?

Sounds like there is no rhyme or reason to how they do it so. Thanks for your input.

Just hound them for the money, there's no other way, now saying that you might get the right person on the phone and you will be sorted, you'll get it in the end don't worry:)
