    Hi,

Re the pics below does anybody know where I might source (or the correct part # / description) the missing bolt/screw thingy yolk that decided to part company from my FSA SLK Light crankset a while back. I thought I had it sussed but the replacement I ordered does not fit, the diameter is right but the thread appears to be wrong. I notice that on the crank it mentions M17 and the spare I got has M27 on it (could this refer to the thread??). I'm not even sure what purpose the missing part serves but it would be nice to find a replacement just from an aesthetic point of view. Thanks in advance :).

Ok fsa crankset....!!!. You pay top dollar for a crankset with a good brand name and its crap... Will I continue .. Or do you want to hear me moan about there cranks .....probably not ... Anyway as you can tell I have been there done that ... Here's the bad news ... You most likely will not get on this side of the water it will have to be ordered from the USA .. Cost about 30 - 40euros ... And even worse you need a special tool socket to fit it ... Cost about €70-80...again from the USA ... And you will be lucky and the customs will want there pound of flesh when those parts come in ...
The GOOD NEWS. .... I have 3 of the above said items and .. The special tools for fitting and the knowledge to make sure it doesn't happen again ...as you can tell I have plenty of practice ... Give me a shout and ill sort you out ....

Had very similar problem. Bike off peg & crank was shipped w/o crank extraction bolt.

They are easy enough to source (e.g http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FSA-MegaExo-Self-Ext-Crank-Bolt-Road-K-Force-SL-K-Team-Issue-/130990177032 or http://www.ukbikestore.co.uk/product/235/390_2060/fsa-k-forceslk-mega-exo-crank-bolt.html), though you do need a pin tool (relatively inexpensive) to fit the outer part into the crank. (This outer bolt attaches to the left crank while the inner bolt attaches to the spindle coming through the BB from the right crank arm, The inner bolt then pushes against the plate on the outer bolt on extraction pushing the left crank arm off the spindle).

They are easy to fit but be warned you have to get it right first time(!!) as the threads on FSA are pretty much made of cheese & will literally shear themselves to dust before you know what's going on. I've since discarded my FSA Sl-k light crankset as between it & the BB bearings having a short lifetime & reckoned they weren't worth the hassle. Though finding a good crankset substitute for BB86 is a whole other matter. What are you going for here??

Are you absolutely sure the thread is wrong? Those threaded self-extracting caps have a reverse thread so they don't pull out when you try to undo the inner bolt.

Long story short: The self extracting cap tightens anticlockwise. Also, you should probably use some threadlock on it just for added safety so that it doesn't part company with your bike again.

    Excellent advice
