Just for web browsing I need a really cheap PC.

I found a good shop and they have 2 very affordable Dell PCs (with 1 year warrenty!)
I'm just not sure which one I should choose
    1) AMD Athlon 64 1640B 2.7 GHz 64 bit with 2 GB RAM (Dell Optiplex GX740)
    2) Intel Dual Core E2140 1.6 GHz with 1 GB DDR2 RAM (Dell Optiplex GX320)

I'd like better the AMD one because it has more memory. I would buy without OS and would use Linux Mint 13. What do you think?

What are the prices? You can pick up machines for that spec - or even better - for €50 on adverts.ie. Would find it hard to recommend either of those.

The AMD seems better to me ...... faster processor and more ram .....

that might change depending on what else is included (or not) in each ......

either way you can hardly go wrong at the price ...... BUT ......

    "Just for web browsing"

can mean almost anything ....... does it include watching HD videoes?

If web browsing for you includes Netflix and Youtube in HD, you may want to look for something that has a weak dedicated GPU. Nothing worse than watching a low quality, jumpy video.

The Intel CPU is better but its very very weak. Playing videos on youtube is going to be a struggle or jumpy. Netflix Will be the same.

Could get a cheap pci-e card and another gb of ram easily enough for under 30 euro. Guy on adverts selling 6450's for example for 15 euro, and a tenner would get you more DDR2 ram, enough for desktop use anyway.

That's exactly what I meant by a weak GPU, something that has for example 1GB DDR3 would be perfect for Netflix and Youtube
