    Hi all,

Does anyone know of a place in Dublin 24 that sell drums of kerosene over the counter so to speak ?

I have let the tank run low :( (won't do that again )

    Thanks

jut a word of warning on 25l drums of kerosene.
i have seen quite a few pumps damaged due to the use of 25l drums.

The level of oil in the tank is very low, someone pours 25l into the tank, this flowing from the top of the tank mixes up all the dirt, sludge and water on the bottom of the tank leaving very dirty oil in the tank which would need days to settle out before use.
some of the sludge and dirt in mix can pass the line filter and the pump filter causing pump damage and nozzle blockages.

had 1 last sat just as described above

its sods law really if people had the money to buy decent qty of oil they wouldn't have half the problems and we wouldn't have half the work

and I don't mean that in a sarcastic way

That doesn't make a lot of sense to me to be honest. What's the difference between chucking in a few 25litre drums and getting the oil truck to deliver a small quantity of oil? The oil truck fills the tank from the top with a lot more force than the 25 litre drum. Surely that stirs up anything in the tank even more!

My main objection to their use is the crud that tends to collect at the top of the drum from repeated use & dust etc sticking to the mouth, and this getting into the tank, but that's different from the point you were making.

I was advised to always wait at least an hour after a delivery to prevent sludge getting into the supply line. So I would think the same should apply to top ups from the drums.

another issue with using 25l drums you tend to run out more often and that means your fuel pump on the burner runs dry and thus has no lubrication

when you say small qty from oil company the minimum del around my neck of the woods now is 200l

If you still need a drum of Kero you can get one from the car wash at the Firhouse Shopping Centre behind The Speaker Connolly pub.
They have a Kero pump and they usually have some spare drums as well.

if you got 250l in one delivery you would only mix up the oil and crap one time versus doing it 10 times with the 25l drums
plus if you add 250l the concentration of crap per volume in the tank would be roughly 10 times less then adding 25l.

and regardless of the explanation of it, the proof is in the breakdowns, and services. the levels of contamination in filters where 25l drums are used is far higher than lorry fills.

and I agree with the issue of dirt getting in to the tank from the 25l drums, ask anyone that fills machinery from drums
