Job mix up?

I was made redundant last year April and job hunting ever since.
Anyway on Friday 31st jan I applied for a job with a well known company via a job website. Filled out all details and cv etc.
I received an email off the company yesterday 5th feb saying that after reviewing my application if I could contact them to arrange a time for a phone interview as they were interested in my application.
The problem is that the location is not the one I applied for but job title is the same. The job ref number also didn't match the one I applied for.
I emailed them back enquiring that it was a different job ref number I applied for and I got a reply back asking me the original job ref number to which I replied again.
I got an email back an hour later telling me the store interviews for the job I applied for we're taking place today 6th feb and if they wasn't successful I would get my phone interview for my original location.
So it got me thinking that was there a mix up with the application process with the company.
The job went up on Friday. I doubt anyone looked at all the applications over the weekend so that left Monday to go through probably thousands of applications and then phone interview the selected few and expect people to make arrangements for a store interview that same week. It dosnt make any sense.
My email said to contact them for my phone interview during the coming week.
Which tells me that it's not a quick process to organise interviews over the phone and in store in the first place.
The location of the job they thought I applied was never in my search anyway so there is no way I accidentally applied for that one.
The other location is too far for me to travel so it's out of the question.
I feel now that I've lost a chance for a job because of a mix up.
I don't want to email them about it in case it comes across as sour grapes.
Maybe fingers crossed I will get an email if the job dosnt get filled.
