    C'mon lads, needs some ideas.

I know she's planning something big for mine, and I havent a scooby what to get her.

She's not a typical girl so the usual jewellery, flowers, chocolates etc won't cut it- she'd be happier with a video game/action figure or something quirky.

    So let's share ideas!

Flowers always cut it... not as the present but as part of a delivery method.
Think of what she likes, we don't know what that is, and get that ;-) simple...
    oh god no.
    What sort of something quirky?

Some random stuff from the gadget shop I guess.

Her thing is video games, but she has every game and console under the sun.

I highly doubt she has everything- there must be some console or game she can't find. Make a list of the consoles she does have, or engineer a conversation and find out if there's a game or something that she played as a kid that you can get her. Have you been in to RAGE in Dublin city centre? They have an amazing selection of retro games & consoles. You could go in and get a recommendation from them either.

Trust me, as a gamer id be so delighted if my gf was able to get me some of the games I played as a kid. Especially since I can't remember half the names! If you get it right we're talking MAJOR brownie points. :p

    What's an Ocarina?

It's like a strangely shaped flute made out of some terracotta/ceramic/clay-like material, the title of one of the most popular Legend of Zelda games is "Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time", Walton's in Dublin have them for about 30 quid.

You said she was a gamer, so I just threw that out there on the off-chance she was into that particular game :P A more generalized suggestion would be to burn her a CD of her favourite game's soundtrack?

Lads, she likes silver jewellery so I was gonna get her a thumb ring tomorrow after work.

Only problem is I don't know her thumb size LOL

    Any ideas?

Get one that's a bit too big and the jewllers can size it after you give it.

Borrow a thumb ring if she already has one and bring that into the jewellers with you. Otherwise I'm afraid you're stuck.

If she isn't the typical girl then may be she isn't into the Valentines malarky.

A watch then, everyone should have at least 2/3 for different occasions.
ICE watches are cute on girls. Kinda funky so i'd say she would like them.

I don't think people should fall into the whole hype of valentine's day but I do think telling that special someone that you are glad they are still part of your life is cool. Small bunch of flowers and box of chocolates.
But I have booked the day off without telling her and will be cleaning the place top to bottom, fire lit when she comes home and a meal ready.
    Think she would appreciate that.

Japyers that's harsh, my OH decided this year he was going to make an effort to be a better partner (dunno why) so tonight he surprised me with a super gift even after I'd said no to going out, doing gifts etc etc.

Now that's turned into "lets have a gorgeous night out Sat" and I've to get him something, I don't want to not reciprocate.

So far on my list are:

Stuff his doctor advised him to get today to help him get healthier
    Refills for his ecigs
Getting his 60 odd unironed shirts ironed by an ironing service
A portable fireplace (he suffers from the cold and loves these)
    Underwear
Chocolates (he is a chocolate addict)
Flowers (more for me than him, to brighten up the house)
A trip out for a coffee together
Dinner at home from our favourite Italian

I'm just back from a three week long business trip so clothes are out as I brought some back as his present for that :)

He did it on the hoof last year and I had nothing to give and felt bad, so going to spoil him this year. I'm not big into my birthday, and Christmas is taken over with his kids, so he likes using Valentines as an excuse to be affectionate.

We've never done the flowers things though!

He did that for Christmas as part of a larger gift, and he once bought me a drill as an anniversary present :)

He minds our cars so it's up to him to make sure oil/water etc are up to date

Best Valentines day present is to not buy into the sheep mentality of it.

I see people on Facebook posting "Happy Valentine's Day to one and all!", as if it's like Christmas or their birthday. Absolute boll*x... Go way and sh*te...
