    Hi Lads,

Just a heads up on the 2014 Lacey Cup which is on Sun Feb 23rd in Tralee.

This year, there will be a separate A4 race, so more prizes up for grabs for A4 riders this year compared to the traditional format.

Free Pre-Registration is now open, full details including accommodation packages can be be found here.

Cheers, hope to see some of you there.

    Murph

Hopefully there's a break in these storms for it!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,034 ✭✭✭Amprodude

I was thinking of doing it as I signed up for an A4 licence but alot of stuff has happened unexpected the last 2 weeks and im out with flu now so the time I get back on bike I will have too much to make up. Alot of hours lost out on bike but Il see how I am next week and make a decision then. How many riders enter this?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,088 ✭✭✭Murph100

@Amprodude, upwards of 180, 220 last year, so hopefully the storms will be over by then. Separate A4 race this year gives both the A4's and A3's something to race for.

Yes, they're called Event Licenses now.

Hi Lads, just got the definitive answer from Cycling Ireland this evening about the Event Licenses … in short,

YES there will be Event Licenses available ( formerly known as One Day Licenses )

    €10 for CI members

    €20 for non CI members

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,088 ✭✭✭Murph100

Just a quick note which might apply to some of you racing with us on Sun.

We appreciate that some riders will not have yet received their CI license, if this is the case please bring a PRINTOUT of your license page from the Cycling Ireland website, otherwise you will have to get a one day license at non CI member rate of €20.

Parking for the Lacey Cup is in the overflow carpark opposite the Manor West Hotel, please do not park in the hotel grounds.

@Murph100 - How many have pre-registered at this stage?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,088 ✭✭✭Murph100

@ Cantalach, A LOT !!! The separate A4 race is proving very popular with both the A4s and the A3s, as its the first time the A3s really get the first shot at the Gleann na nGealt Primes, and also the first time the A4s have something to race home for !

Must get the club Tazer out to the get more feckin' stewards !!

Hi Guys, we're advising everybody who is racing in the Lacey Cup to be as early as possible for sign-on which opens at 10:00am.

Due to the indicated numbers of racers, and also the added joy of processing lads who still haven't received their 2014 numbers, please don't leave it to the last 30 mins of sign-on.

    Once again :

    Sign-on opens @ 10.00am

    Sign-on closes @11.30am

    Roll out @ 12:10pm

    A3's off @ 12:30pm

What's the weather looking like for tomorrow?

@wirelessdude01 I used to always swear by yr.no, as my job depends on weather ( photographer ), however my diving mates introduced me to xcweather.co.uk which has been WAY more accurate for wind and temp, and is also updated more frequently.

    So tomorrow is http://www.xcweather.co.uk/forecast/tralee

A bit like today, you won't need sunscreen, but you won't need a thermal jacket, and you'll have a great tailwind going up the final climb.

BTW be sure to say 'Hi', I'll be the bald unshaven skinny guy looking stressed to hell wearing a Tralee BC Gilet over civvies !

    See you there ;)

Looks like Damian Shaw has taken amateur cycling to another level. Possible contender for The RAS this year one wonders? Big ask but he has a good team around him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,990 ✭✭✭cantalach

Apart from the first 5km, he effectively rode the race solo, at an average 40.7km/h...spectacular stuff considering the climbs and the wind. Everyone's going to be looking for a hypoxic mask after that display!

Chalk it down, I'd say a few weeks of that training would bring you on in leaps and bounds. Still, at €50 a pop it ain't cheap.

Did you ride the A1/A2 race? What was it like in the bunch?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,833 ✭✭✭ballyharpat

I rode the A2 race, first time with them, it was very steady, I was nervous so was out of my HR zone up above threshold for the first 40 minutes. It was much more comfortable than riding in the 3's though.....I found.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,907 ✭✭✭pprendeville

I remember doing the hill climb in The Wexford 2 day last year I was so nervous that my HR was in he 160s on the start line. Should usually be around 100.

It was an A1/A2/A3 race and I'm an A3. We were joined by a good few of the A2s at the bottom of the first climb and it was a combined A2/A3 group from there on because the A1s never caught us, apart from Shaw. The wind probably had a big bearing on things because trying to get away into it seemed like a suicide move. It got more animated alright when we got to the coast and the head wind became a tail wind.
