Hi, I will soon be in the market for a car. My main uses will be a half-hour each way commute to work and a weekly/bi-weekly 350 mile roundtrip. Due to this, I was thinking of opting for a diesel with a bit of comfort rather than a cheap and cheerful city runaround which from experience doesn't always make for a nice 4 hour trip.

Due to being a graduate, I have €0 in savings and will have to opt for a loan which I have looked at so far at €7000 over 3 years to ensure that even if there are some bumps on the road, I will still be able to afford the repayments comfortably.

So far, I have been drawn to the 06/07 Passat 2.0 Sport, 06 A4 and 06 Volvo V40. To a lesser extent, I am drawn to the Avensis and Octavia...I will have this car for 3 years so don't want to be too bored with it - although I know the Avensis is one of the most reliable cars on the road.

So, should I continue focussing on my choices? Am I right to prioritise a newer, higher spec car over an older car?
