Listened to a podcast this week on it. Guy going for 2:15 and running 70 miles a week and cycling 100 miles. Very interesting.

Anyone have experience of this ?

tbh 70 miles a week ain't that much. most going for sub 2:15 are doing 125-150 or more.

A few of the lads from Dunboyne follow this and seem to rate it highly.
I haven't looked in to it any further since talking to the lads about it, another thing on my to do list

I'm one of the lads at dunboyne that "followed" that Hanson plan last year.

None of us actually followed it to the letter as the long run topped out at 16 miles on the plan and we all did 20+ milers.

The majority of us are doing Rotterdam in April and none of us are doing Hanson this time around, says it all really.

None of us are sub 2.45 so maybe for more experienced runners there might be something to it..

Don't know why but this popped into my head when I read the title of this thread :)http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billings_ovulation_method

Haven't followed this myself but a colleague did. To be honest it would be ideal if you had done a full training block for a spring marathon and were then targeting a decent Autumn marathon. In my opinion it assumes you have a decent level of marathon stamina. It's like a tide you over plan. No long runs and lots of races and faster sessions. Don't think it would be a good idea for someone with limited running experience. Could possibly suit the injury prone.

Topping out at 16 miles for the Long run. There's not many that would suit surely. I mean, it's a gamble to try isn't it.

From what I heard that basically that would be the day after a 10M hard the day before so you simulate the last 16M of the race. It does sound interesting though I am not convinced.

Heres a video with Luke Humphrey who wrote the book. He's a Hanson's distance project runner and a 2.14 marathoner. The members of the distance project themselves don't use the method. They all seem to be 120 and upwards MPW runners.

More by accident than design, I ran 20 last Sun after a hard 10 on the Sat, was tough from 5 miles, but dragged myself around. 2 weeks previously I ran 20 on the Sat and cruised around 10 the day after. So there's probably something in that.
Does it suggest running the 10 late in the day and the 16 early?
