Thinking of getting a 7 string

Recently I've been experimenting with a lot more heavier stuff so i'm thinking about picking up a 7 string, only problem is that there doesn't appear to be many on the shelves locally, zero in fact, so i'm gonna have to buy online, secondhand ideally.

Any advice on what to look out for would be greatly appreciated budget is €400 but might be able to stretch to €500 for the right guitar.

(I should also say i'm not a big fan of trems so hard tail would be my preference)

Why not tune a 6 string down to B instead? Easier to find a guitar, and strings, and if you get bored of playing heavy, you have a guitar you can tune back up.

That's what I've been doing for the past few months and while it does the job fine a lot of the tabs i'm trying to learn are for 7 string.

(I may also want a new toy :o)

What kinda spec are you looking for? Loads of different models within that budget, depends on what you want (trem or not, pickup config etc.)

Fixed bridge, active pups, conservative enough shape so nothing with mad pointy bits :p

The Ibanez 7321 is worth a look, they pop up on adverts.ie from time-to-time. Few Schecter 7's up there at the moment too.

Ibanez RG7421 is on thomann and within your price range. Planning on getting my first 7 string fairly soon and its either gonna be the 7421 and upgrade the pickups or a 2nd hand 7620 that's being sold local to me.

Only thing is the 7421 has passive pups, which Ive just seen you don't want. Does have a fixed bridge though.
