Nicknames that are just plain ridiculous

I have come across a number of people over the years that have nicknames and its often got me wondering as to the origin of these names. Some of the reasons for labelling people with these names that are routinely used more commonly than there can be very obscure. I know of one guy called Rat, merely because when he was six he pestered his parents for a pet rat which they eventually gave in and bought him. The poor git is now in his 30's and it seems he will get Rat till his dying day. Does anyone know of any other poor sods landed with a nickname from hell?

Fella whose real name was Alex. He was given the name "pox bottle" and it stuck. The closest I ever got to an explanation was 'because he is one'. Nice guy though, as was his older brother.

Sometimes nicknames just stick. I had a ridiculous one from the age of 9 to about 18 when I left school.

Personal, I hate the ones ending in "-zza" or "-o" (Johno, Deco, Kevo...)

Heard a few great ones, but one of my Scottish mates is nicknamed Paedo Dave, which often needs explaining, but to the best of my knowledge he isn't actually a paedophile.

Friends always called me Danny for aslong as I can remember.

Due to some football exploits I temporarily got the name "pippo" (football fans will get it) but after my somewhat horrid addiction to energy drinks emerged, I've been labelled now the past few weeks as "Monster". And it has very much stuck..for better or worse:(

I had a friend who had a near death drowning experience while on holiday and instead of showing sympathy when i found out I decided it best to call him "Robert Drowney Jr" all summer. With all the nicknames given to people in the navy and you only pick 1. There is an endless list of nicknames in that place, i dont even know the real names of alot i served with
