Change of ownership processing time

    Hi there

I bought a car last weekend and the dealer advised me that he had submitted the change of owner info via the motortax.ie facility. He also said that it'd be Tuesday morning at the latest before I could tax the car.

I checked online both yesterday and today and the motor tax status page says there hasn't been any change of ownership registered in the past three months. The guy in the dealership said he did it, so is it possible there is a processing delay? I emailed him about it today, but so far, no response.

Last change of ownership I was involved with was February last year. It went through in a couple of days, the delay was because the garage hadn't done it. Just keep checking the motortax.ie page and eventually it'll recognise your credentials.

I'm waiting a week and a half at this stage. I've rang the dealer twice and he's adamant he done it online. He says it happens all the time, he says a lot of things, it just happened another of his customers the other week, then he had to go, he had another one of those customers.
I rang the Shannon office Monday and they said they were getting through the stuff from Thursday.

It usually takes a week or so to get it processed and update the details.

In another recent thread several posters said it took 2 weeks or so to get the logbook.
Online doesn't update realtime either, last time I bought a car I think it was updated about the same day I actually received the logbook.

    Ring Shannon and ask.

I rang Shannon on thursday and they just said "ring your dealer over and over until they've sent it." I rang the dealer and they said they've definitely sent it, but the online system still hasn't updated. If it hasn't transferred over by the end of this week I'm going to contact the Tax office in shannon and have the ownership registration changed to my name.

My dealer swears he sent it too. Nothing after two weeks so he applied for a new copy. He got that out and sent it off yesterday, Lets see how that goes.

Well I rang the tax office again today, and learned that not only is the car not in my name, it isn't in the dealer's name either, so something a bit dodgy is going on there. This car is turning into a bloody saga at this stage. Anyone been in this position before?

In my experience it takes a lot longer for it to be processed when the ownership is being transferred from a garage. I've had it take a couple of weeks, like you. On the other hand, any time I've sent in a logbook to be changed myself it's only taken a week tops. Maybe it's a different department or different system down in Shannon for dealerships to customers?

Yeah I heard that before. What i mean though is that the dealer never got the ownership transferred to them to begin with when they bought the car from the last owner, so it was either laziness on their part or there's something else going on
