UPC 200Mb - anyone getting close to that speed

Got upgraded to 200Mb a few days ago. When I was on a 50Mb connection and using wired LAN connection, I was getting roughly 40Mb in a speedtest.
With the 200Mb upgrade, I am only seeing 80Mb in the speedtest. I don't mind it being less than advertised but that is way off.
    Anyone have similar?

For most things including speedtest, i get up to 160 or so. But for downloading steam games etc i easily hit the 200 mark. Often downloading at 22Megs/sec.

But i think i'm in the minority.

Is your ethernet adaptor 100Mb/sec or 1000Mb/sec? If it's 100Mb/sec you won't get anything over 100Mb/sec on speedtests or download speeds.

Also have you tried UPC's speedtest - http://www.upc.ie/bundles/broadband-phone/speed-test/

Don't trust speedtests alone, try downloading a large file and see what you get.

With the right servers I get a good sustainable 26 MB/sec (good servers in Ireland, UK, Netherlands, Germany) for downloads, US is usually a bit slower and in the late evening it's going down further (I assume too many users for the back end).

For example try to download this: http://ftp.heanet.ie/disk1/FreeBSD/ISO-IMAGES-amd64/10.0/FreeBSD-10.0-RELEASE-amd64-disc1.iso and see what you get a MB/sec. I get 26.99 MB/sec on my 200 Mb UPC connection during the day.

make sure your wired network card is capable of gigabit ethernet (1000meg max), as opposed to FastEthernet (100meg max)

    NIC is gigabit yep.
I am getting 185MB now on the UPC test but only 50Mb on the Ookla (speedtest.net one)
Download speeds on a well seeded torrent are reaching up to 24MB/sec, so seems to be the ookla test that is misleading.

Flash is not 100% reliable for bandwidth tests. However, with the UPC speed test I get my full 100Mb/s (in-fact, 105Mb/s). Speedtest.net on the other hand is hit and miss. My best results come from Dublin (Vodafone). Considering that I did say Flash was unreliable, it's reliable enough to maintain some form of consistency. I'm proficient enough at Flash ActionScript 3.0 so I have delved into the bandwidth testing side of things in the past. So if you can get your full speed reported back to you from one Flash-based speed test then in theory the others should report likewise. If not, then it's the server or the routing between you and the server that'd be causing the problem.

If you want to get a better idea using a non-flash test, go to http://speedof.me

I'm rocking 200, and I'm getting that, or sometimes 5Mb over, with 7-9 Mbps down.

The download speed (105Mb/s) reported to me was accurate but not the upload (6.27Mb/s). UPC's Ookla Flash-based speed test does show my correct upload speed and I always get the most out of it via FTP. It's hard to know why the HTML5 test doesn't show my upload's potential so I'll assume it's the server on their side until proven otherwise.

    Download Speed: 49.34 Mbps
    Upload Speed: 4.41 Mbps

Reasonably accurate it would appear. Should be hitting 5 on the upstream though.

I get 14Mbps on the non flash test and 190Mbps on the UPC one, how's that?

Routing, servers... Flash isn't 100% but with optimal conditions it should give you a decent look at how your connection performs. What's more optimal than doing it via your own ISP's speed test?

If you want to test further, download a Linux ISO and watch the transfer rate.
