Amazon Tip

Got a tip from a procurement expert that I was doing some business with that Amazon are now using BI to target discount offers at people based on their wishlists to try and tempt them into buying.

The tip is to add anything you're considering purchasing to your wishlist and within a couple of weeks you should get an email from Amazon promoting a discount on that item.

While I haven't proven this myself yet, he claimed to have gotten up to 15 euros off a number of items he'd bought using this method.

Obviously won't work if you need the item in a hurry but if there are things you're planning to buy after payday etc. it could be worth a try!

Same here, at least 10 items in the wish list but never see the price coming down or any special offers.

they definitely collect a lot of data on what you look at. If I look at particular items I notice with a couple of days I get an email with top sellers in that category I was looking.

Never got a discount for something in my wishlist

I have had notices from camelcamelcamel about stuff on the wishlist but nothing from amazon so I'd use camelcamelcamel and set a price you're happy paying. Then you won't be tempted by other offers.

Funny to see this post because i had something in my wishlist the last 2 weeks, it was 44.90. I notice it was reduced to 39.90 earlier so i bought it. just checked the actual item listing again and its 44.90. weird.

Same here, i use it a lot, i do get some stuff from Amazon, but usually i'm late looking at email & realise the price has gone up again.

I had an item in my wishlist, although i cant remember how long it was there, but it was £36.99 & now down to £26, so i was even happier to find the 'tweet your claim to get a further £5 off' & surprisingly the item is still down at that price, but half the prices on Amazon are overpriced anyway :p

The missus was saying something like this about littlewoods. Can't remember if she said to leave it in the basket or add it to the wish list

If you want something under £10.00 for the free delivery pick something to make it go over that price, and then cancel it you should still get the free delivery

The £10 free delivery only applies to the UK its £25 minimum spend for free ROI delivery

They've changed the conditions on the £10 free delivery in the UK recently, as it applies to everything now as before it didnt apply for cd/dvds.

Jesus will people stop posting this around on public forums. Last thing we want is Amazon getting wind of lots using it and fixing this definite glitch. I've been using it for years and don't want it to be fixed ever!!

Isn't it funny how people want these little glitches to be shared freely until the exact moment that they learn about them...

I was never told about it. I figured it out myself many a year ago. I did share it one time on here but was asked by a few people to delete the post and I obliged.

amazon charges less during the morning and at different part of the week, use different browsers and clear cookies they follow you from different sites because they charge different prices to diffeant people, amazon is not always the cheapest, they don't price match even own prices but there should be button to press to tell them about cheaper price

buying from amazon your not putting anything into the irish economy,no jobs no taxes etc

To be fair they charge Irish VAT on goods, and probably do more than their fair share to keep employee numbers up in An Post and other private delivery firms.

I just recently bought an Acer tablet through Flubit which were £10 cheaper than Amazon. Funny thing was they bought it from Amazon and sent it to me Amazon receipt and packinging on the box  not sure how they make their money

they also have a big office in Dublin and datacentres where they employ a lot of sales and technical staff. Whether they pay any corporation tax is another matter...

I was just going to say that this tip sounds very much like using flubit.

Flubit is now strictly amazon, wouldn't be surprised if amazon own it, possibly indirectly or they at least they have a formal partnership. Its like someone trying to bargain someone down in a shop, the shopkeeper not budging, and then going "alright I'll knock a tenner off" just as you go to leave, when they know they might lose the sale.

When flubit was accepting any UK site I sent in a hayfever device from a pharmacy which was already on offer. Flubit bettered it by a nice amount but it did end up coming from that same pharmacy. Some low volume selling items would presumably have higher markups, like the jewellery trade, so if a business is stuck for cash flow they might be willing to knock a few euro off and still make a reasonable profit.
To be fair they charge Irish VAT on goods,
+1 just to be totally clear, and pre-empt a question, the irish government do get this money.
