New F1 Engine - Video

For those who don't already know, F1 is moving to a 1.6L V6 Turbo engine for this season.

The engine itself will only produce between 600 to 650bhp due to having a fuel flow limiter attached and having a certain rev limit. The aim is to produce more efficient F1 engines.

To compensate for the loss of power, KERS (now called ERS-K) is going to be supplemented by another energy recovery device called ERS-H. The new device is attached to the turbo and will generate electricity when the turbo isn't being used. It will also eliminate turbo lag by spinning the turbo if needed before the exhaust gases get the chance to do so.

Combined, ERS-K and ERS-H will supply an additional 160bhp for a maximum of 33 seconds during a lap. However, while KERS was used by the driver at the push of a button, the additional power from the new system will be blended with engine power.

Nice video here from Craig Scarborough explaining it all.
