Just catching up on the news today and I see DB have launched a new mascot:

Seriously?? Someone thought this was a good idea?? A plastic yellow football on a stick with a (badly) coloured upside-down DB logo stuck on it?

Seems like a Christmas party joke that someone took seriously. How much did this cost?

Their core network map sums up Dublin bus perfectly, if it doesn't go in or out of the city centre, it doesn't exist.

This isn't a joke?? I saw it yesterday and thought it was a student project/mock up or similiar.

No it's no joke apparently - it's on the website too

Nice to see the fare increases being put to good use I suppose! ... seeing as they're trying to be all cool with de kids (social media and what not), maybe they should change the tag-line too: "Dublin Bus - trolling in the city"

Check out this guy, he created a character called the Busman and Dublin Bus set their legal team on him for copyright infringement,

Kinda looks like and egg with sperm, but the sperm are all running away

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

Not much money spent of that mascot, looks cobbled together from what someone found in their office drawer.

But then there's the videos, voice-over, website additions, competition prizes etc..

I'd say it adds up all the same

Marketing spent 120,000eur of uncollected refunds on this concept.

I am only joking, but seriously this thing is a joke. Has to be. Are they trying tongue-in-cheek maybe?

If it is a joke, it must have been put together by a comedy writer for RTE.

Probably as much as they cut from staff pay packets last year.

It's definitely a bit of a laugh but at the same time Dublin Bus is supposed to be a brand. Representing that brand with a yellow football on a mop head makes the Dublin Bus marketing team look like a bunch of idiots. They're obviously trying to be down with social media but it has completely backfired as right across social media people are going

Afterwards he said he was joking.

The uncollected cash refunds are used for charity projects - they are strictly ring-fenced.

I don't think Noel himself cost much to put together, however having him plastered all over the Metro Herald this morning, along with all the ads on TV and radio, isn't cheap.

I honestly wish that Dublin Bus would spend a little less on these pointless advertising campaigns, and instead do something more constructive to promote bus usage. For example, they could run a promotion where all Leap fares are €1.50 every Saturday or Sunday in a given month to encourage shoppers to leave the car at home and to get Leap cards. Alternatively, they could give something back to regular users by having a special offer on Rambler tickets etc.

I'm trying to remember the name of the guy who this mascot reminds me of. He was a Dublin man who used to do TV shows for RTE on Dublin life. It would have been on in the 1970's and it was repeated last year or the year before on RTE for RTE 50. Anyone remember his name at all?
