Im looking at building a 2 bed detached home for my mother and am wondering what do people think about timber frame v block build v prefabricated concrete v logcabin v passive type home. Priorities are cost, speed of build, warm/economical. Site is not too restrictive and is a level fairly exposed windy site but not on a height. just interested to see what people think or if there are any other options I should look at.

I'm in the same situation and have read lots of discussions on here about the best type of build. And it really depends...

On what is your main priority. If speed then I believe TF so SIP are fastest. And with TF there are some companies that do the entire kit for you. All you have to do is decorate. If price I think wide cavity seems to be cheapest. If Passivehouse then any of the systems will work but more effort appears to be needed for cavity wall as far as I can see.

Get quotes once you have detailed architect drawings.
