Sole Trader expense receipt

    Sole Trader, non-VAT-registered.

    If I buy a second-hand smartphone, can I claim it as a business expense if the person who I buy it from writes me a receipt? The seller is not a business.

    The seller's original purchase receipt (from a store) will be attached.

    Properly you should claim capital allowances over 8 years.

    If the amount you are paying is relatively low then Revenue are unlikely to disturb your assessments if you do get audited.
