toilet waste linked to hot tap?

Last night I flushed the jacks, turned on the hot tap to wash my hands, and what looked very like what I just flushed down the jacks came through the hot tap for a second (sorry, there's no way to sugar coat it!).

How on earth could the loo waste be linked to hot water? If it's impossible, wtf happened?

My house is in a 1980's estate in Naas, Kildare, not a great quality build but I've been here for 7 years with no problems.

If you have a large tank in the attic, I would have a peep in there. There is no way your stuff could have gotten into your hot tap unless your septic tank overflowed into your well. You would then have it in your cold (and drinking) water also.

If on mains, maybe just dirt caused by flooding back along the system somewhere. You certainly need to check it out.

I'm on mains, and it never occurred to me that it might be a backlog (no pun intended!) from the flood water. I am convinced that you are right, and I am reassured, cheers!

It is too important to ignore. Have a look in attic tank and also phone council and explain what happened.
