    hey

So I am over in San Fran with work in a few weeks and looking for any recommendations on courses to play.

I have a day free when there so I am going to rent a car and clubs and get a game in so anyone any advice on where to play?

I was thinking Pebble Beach but they have a rule that only guests of the hotel can book times so any other advice?

    thanks

Would def have to be pebble beach for me. Expensive alright but probably is going to be a once in a lifetime experience.
Link below show that there are green fees for non resort guests!

You can book 24 hours in advance if you are not staying in the hotels for a booking. You end up getting shoved into a three/four ball somewhere but it's a bit of craic. I had no problems getting a slot during the week.

IMO Spyglass is the best of the courses on the resort though and you can get great twilight rates for it.

The Olympic Club. Hands down. Not sure if you can get out without a member though.

    Some nice links here

    http://top100golf.blogspot.co.uk/2006/01/san-francisco-and-olympic-golf-clubs.html

I think you can't get into the SF or Olympic unless as a guest.

Personally I'd look at Presidio or failing that TPC Harding

    Excellent thanks for the advice..

I would love to give the Olympic a go also Cyprus Point (too much Tiger Woods golf on the XBox)

Both private members clubs though. Unless you know a member I'd forget about that :)

Its a good 2 1/2 hour drive from SF down to Monterrey so you would need to factor that in.

With Jetlag I will be awake for 5/6am at latest so no problem with the journey. I will rent a car for the day and take a drive. It was between this and heading to Lake Tahoe for skiing and I will just be back from France so I think golf is taking the preference.

I just mailed some of my US team to see if they know anyway of getting out on the Olympic as there is a few big golfers on the team over there.

I would strongly recommend it. I haven't played any of the Monterrey courses but Olympic is a treat and much easier to get to. I think the 6 hour round would put me off Pebble Beach, nice though it is.

San Francisco GC is the best course in San Francisco. For easy access Passtiempo in Santa Cruz is a very good choice.

Harding Park would be another course in the area. Couple of WGCs played there, but it's a public course. That's all I know about it!

I have played both Harding Park and Presidio, would recommend both.

    Harding first though

Harding Park sounds ideal for a visitor to SF looking to get out. As a solo you should get fixed up easily - ideally with some regulars who know the course. Bound to be enjoyable and if it's good enough for WGC (and Presidents Cup) it should do nicely!

Northwood golf club its just noth of santa rosa it might be just over an hours drive maybe more
Its designed by Alister Mckenze around the time he done augusta, its only 9 holes but because its off the beaten track and tucked out of the way near russian river its cheap. Its one of the most unique courses i played because its carved out of massive californian red woods, every hole is tree lined the echo there is crazy when you nail a drive, diffenitly worth the drive

Another one to try is halfmoon bay its down past pacifica sout of sanfranciso. Its crazy its like an american st andrews but just everthing is over the top in the club house. Only bad thing it gets very foggy sometimes and its pricey.
But 15, 16, 17 and 18 are a joy to play, cliffs and the ocean all the way up the left, 18 is very like 18 at pebble beech at a fraction of the price, it was 150 dollars when i played it ;)

I got this recommendation from a friend from San Fran so I think it maybe a winner.

    Thanks again

Olympic club if you can get invited in is a treat and reasonable. Around 120

Harding park is nice as well but at around 180 a round overpriced.Likely to be full of local hackers as well as its cheap for residents to play.

metropolitan golf links Oakland nice and reasonable price

sharp park rough and ready but very cheap, beautiful location and public

stone tree, lovely course and a good test

Precidio Lovely course but had a serious slow round. turned me off

Tilden park Near Berkeley, very nice course and reasonable

Eagle vines is a good venue as well. Bit far out though

Halfmoon bay the old course, it would get a vote, not mad about the ocean course.

Get on golfnow. you will be able to check out most sf courses on that

San Jose has a fabulous micro climate - almost always ideal for golf - 30mins south of the much more variable San Fran

as for courses I love Cinnabar ... 3 excellent nines very reasonable and a golf museum that you could get lost on with so xmemorablia

As for Pebble - it is a real treat - the only course that despite only playing once - i can remember every hole - its really class

Beside pebble there are 2 fab courses called Bayonet and Blackhorse (same club)

resonable and great value - and they played the USPGA club Pro championship there in 2012 -

We are playing this (36 holes on Monday as they had some deal on with Buggy/Clubs/Lunch for a 4 ball)

Looking forward to it (fingers crossed for some sun).

Thanks for the recommendation, Looking forward to playing what looks like a nice Irish Links
