    What area ?
A good local plumbing shop / hardware should know who is good in the area.

Ive contacted 8 companys/plumbers this week, 2 said they where not interested. 5 did not reply! Their all local and I have clearly explained what im looking to do...Do people not want to work...

Only one company has agreed to come and have a look at the job.

    What am i doing wrong

Do you live in a very remote area?
Is your heating system extremely old?
Did you discuss pricing over the phone?
Did you ask the contractors to call out at an awkward hour to survey the job?
Did you email all these people instead of making phone calls?

No not a remote area by any means and like I said I contacted local company's

Heating system is only ten years old

No I didn't discuss price, asked for the job to be looked at and quoted for

I was flexible on when they called out

Called some and emailed some, do company's not take emails serious?

Everything seems grand to be honest. I prefer to be called but email is fine too. It's just sometimes the email gets lost in cyber space!

That's my experience with some plumbers too. Not interrelated don't call back, don't turn up. I even had one from this site called AverageJoe82 who failed to turn up when he said he would.

I get the feeling that unless they can charge a call out charge there not interested

I had a call just yesturday from a chap who wanted me to callout (for free)and check his boiler and heating and tell him why the ground floor rads would not heat, he seemed to forget that i did almost the same thing for him last year (i'm told he got a friend) and yet he didnt bother his ass to come back to me, i was very professional about it! told him i would be along in the next few days, ;)

It depends on the individual & the company. I personally if I couldn't make the appointment or was running late would always ring. I would never just not turn up.
Only recently I was getting a quote from an insulation contractor & the job was coming in at €5,500 & he never turned up 3 weeks in a row. Not a phone call, not even a sausage.
I dare say, somebody else got the job & then the guy had the cheek to ring me & ask could he come & talk to me, I agreed & he never turned up again!

These things happen but it doesn't bother me. When I meet him on the road I just wave my cheque book at him & smile!

If I don't open my tool box I don't charge. But then, most of my calls are local.

oh I agree scudo you have to view each call on its merits

a 5 min drive down the road to a customer like I had last mon to tell an old gent there was nothing wrong with his boiler that getting a few quids worth of oil wouldn't fix

he insisted on paying me that's the kind of chap he is so I said no we will sort something the next time it needs to be serviced I feel I would have done my reputation no good if I charged him some imho you just have to use your common sense I was in and out in 5 mins his son and daughter are also customers of mine so if I acted the greedy schit I possibly could have lost 3 customers

The fair enough, i'm talking about coming out to price jobs.
Last quote I was looking at was to zone the hot cylinder and rads. Add TRVs etc, replace single rad in kitchen with double. Expecting someone to fault find for free is different

Ah Jim we cover all of Ireland and have to travel the length of the county to dice out jobs and quote. No way would we get away with charging for the day. We absorb the costs into our regular costs

I had two companys come out to me in the end on the weekend, both were on time and very professional, I understand its costs guys money to come out and I expect those initial costs to be included in there quote.

Its a decent size job so I just thought there would be more interest in the work, im not looking for a cheap a cheerful i want it done right.

Hopfully I'll be sorted once I have all quotes back.
