would say the canyon over a lot of bikes, but i'm very impressed by that cannondale, guy in my local tri shop rides one and it's a beautiful bike. think i'd have the cannondale in this one

I should be getting my canyon today. I bought it at the canyon outlet, which sells bikes at reduced price.

U might find something in your size at a good price.

I'd prefer the Cannondale frame if only because I'm not a fan of Canyon's policy of refusing to sell forks separately (AFAIK if you damage your fork they expect you to replace the frame too) and the 1.25" steerer tube greatly restricts your options when buying stems if you're the type who like to tweak their fit. Also their headsets, while clever and effective, are again Canyon specific so you're never going to be able to just pick one up at short notice. I have an older generation CAAD frame and it is wonderfully stiff and really handles. From what I've read they've retained those characteristics while also getting lighter.

That said, the two links you've posted show 6700 on the CAAD and 6800 on the Canyon. 10sp vs 11sp. The 6800 is supposedly miles better in terms of shifting - the front shifting on first under-the-tape cabled Shimano groupsets is a bit agricultural but they've more or less sorted that out apparently. On that basis I might go for the Canyon and just hope I never need a fork, headset or dérailleur hanger in a hurry.

I had the very same dilemma last summer, finally went with the Canyon AL 6.0 with new 105 group set, the reason was cost got a 2013 model for 1,300 including Mavic Kysrium wheels a bargain. not a fan of the colour scheme on the canyon bikes this year. but I have no complaints with the bike, if you do go for the Canyon and are unsure of your size, I suggest getting a bike fit done before you buy.

I thought both frames were very similar but the CADD does have the reputation of been the best alu frame out there, I do similar riding to the OP and prefer alu over carbon at that price point - better wheels and group set and having ridden a cheaper carbon bike I prefer the feel of an alu.

The canyon is very comfortable and the seat post does work, best of luck with the purchase you are on a winner with either bike

How about adding €100 to the Canyon and get an Ultimate AL 9.0 with Ultegra Di2 for €1799. What a bargain.

I'd get the Ultimate AL 8.0 because it has a nicer looking crankset and is €100 cheaper than the 9.0.

Which one do you prefer the look of? When the specs and frames are of similar quality, pick the bike that makes you smile when you see it and makes you want to take it out on the road.

If choosing purely on looks, I'd go for the Cannondale.

If choosing purely on looks, I'd go for the Cannondale.

It looks tasty in black, if you're in to that sort of thing. (note correct crank angle)

Hey! Thanks a mil for your replies!
I rode a Canondale in Gran Canaria last year & really liked it: solid, fast & reliable: their frames are quite big; so I go for a 54 Canondale & a 56 Canyon.
The Canyon Spec is hard to beat, but i dont really like the colour schemes for 2014 to be honest! I much preferred the black, stealthy look last year!
I know that Cyclesuperstore & Cycleways both stock Canondales: & it is nice to support a LBS & handy if anything goes wrong...

Would you think the Canondale frame is possibly better than the Canyon frame?

    There's a 2013 ULTIMATE AL 9.0 DI2 CT 2013 linked below:

In your size i think. Might be slightly out of budget.

Edit: Same as the one above linked, just click on the images to show its wear.

No idea. I use an Ultimate AL for racing and it's faultless, and I've also done a 180km ride on it without unusual discomfort.

Buy the one you subjectively like and convince yourself it's objectively better.

+1 on the Cannondale. Bought one last August - can't fault it.

I find my AL is very comfortable, no road buzz due to the design, carbon fork, seat post etc. also very stiff can easily be used for racing, the down tube is tapered on the drive side so it responds very well

I would go that way as well, as both bikes are very good.

I ride a CAAD10 and I like it very much, but if I had a Canyon bike, I am quite sure I wouldn't complain either.
