If you are new owner then you only pay tax from that month it was purchased and put into your name.

Test will be year from when you test it.

Not anymore it's not. There is no doe any more its now called cvrt. It's a lot stricter than the doe as well as being 115 euro per year. Since it's out of test you will most likely get six months and then have to do it again. Although it's hard to tell as I've many different rules about cvrt when it comes to van doe's being out of date. I don't know for sure which is correct as when I tested my van the end of last year it was within doe so I got a year. The main thing to bear in mind it's not a year from when it's tested anymore like it was with doe it's now a year from when the cvrt/ doe expired. But as yours had expired over a year you will probably get 6 months best to ring them as it's a fairly new system so hard to know for sure.

You only get 6 months and next test is a year

    Only in Ireland....

I've found myself in this same situation. I imported a Sprinter minibus from UK in 2012 and had it tested here in April 2012. As the minibus is not being used for PSV, I was told it would have to be taxed privately (despite being used 100% for our business). The local tax office said that they would bring this issue up with the powers that be. In the meantime, I decided not to use the vehicle. Earlier this month, I sold the vehicle to a friend who took it in to get it tested (and suffer the private tax rate). It passed this Wednesday and, today, she received the Certificate of Roadworthiness with an expiry date of 2/4/2014 i.e. 6 weeks. The ironic thing is, that if she has left it a few weeks and had it tested *after* the 2nd April, she would have got a cert for 6 months!!! Only in Ireland.

Welcome to rip-off Ireland. Notwithstanding the need to now get it retested again in the next few weeks, it'll cost €200 as it's a minibus. The corresponding van costs about €90. Differences? It has additional seats - which cost me €150 to have tested when I imported the vehicle. Why on earth I made the dumb decision to put the vehicle onto Irish plates is beyond me now! I should have left it registered to our UK office (as it spends half the year there!)

So, is no Certificate of Roadworthiness in place for the latter 6 months and, therefore, illegal? Presumably, this would prevent you taxing the vehicle during that period?

Not wishing to hijack the thread....what is the test procedure if the minibus has only 8 seats plus driver? Does it then require an NCT rather than a CVRT (DOE) test despite it having a MAUW of 3500kg?

does the same go for an nct?
say a 2002 car off the road with over the year , how would the nct go surely you would have to get a year from the test date?

It appears to be just for Commercial vehicles (at the moment)
