Your Dad's Car Reg.

Following on from the 'Drop a digit from your Car Reg' thread, and after watching a very poor Top Gear last night, where its one saving grace was a remark regarding fellas remembering their Dads car registrations, I thought I'd look up one of my Dads. Only remeber the reg of one them that he owned around the late 80s early 90s, despite him owning several during my life time, I decided to look it up on Cartell and as it had an English reg, the DVLA as well.

Turns out it was grey 1980 Morris Ital, 1.3 petrol engine, that was last taxed in 1992. Doesn't tell me if scrapped, but with that tax date, I assume it is. Another clue is that alot of the car checkers come back as reg invalid.

Much prefered the Sierra, the Capri, and the string of Datsuns/Nissans my self.

So over to you, and your Dads.

Motortax.ie. Although on my old car it simply says no change of ownership or issue of VRC in last 3 months.

IIRC he would have bought it used in Ryan&Burns at their original garage in 92 after it was traded in for the 323 and it spent a huge amount of time in the Golf Club in Nenagh. I loved that car. Do you know where it is now? I think scrapped but you never know. Unless of course he was sold on again. In 92 it had over 80k miles on it already and never gave any trouble.

They won a new Hyundai Accent in a football draw in 2000, and it got sold off, always loved them, bought an r19 RSI myself with the ridiculous bucket seats (so comfy) around the same time, wish I still had it

Was that a green one with black leather interior? I vaguely remember one like that around Nenagh at the time. 94?

    Hmmm.... The ones I remember:

    510 BZC: Fiat X1/9
    14 PZA: Ford Cortina mk4
96 GLI: Alfa Romeo Giulietta
    454 BI: Fiat Regatta 1.5
    CIS 806: Fiat Regatta 1.3
74 MH 503: Land Rover S3 FFR (still have that)
    87 MH 232: Fiat Regatta 1.3

You can get the 87 Regatta, Alfa and Landy on motorcheck, the rest won't come up ;)

I can't remember any of the others, there were many! Most were from the 60's and 70's. He mostly had Fords back in the day (Escorts, Cortinas, Anglias, Zephyrs, Consuls/Corsair(sadly not a Granada/Consul GT), Consul Capri etc), a few from BL, Opel then went Italian in 1985 and never looked back (apart from the International in 2003 and Mercs in 2008/2010)

So yeah.... That's where I got that from :P

By the looks of things, I'll have some list in a few years time.... If I can remember the reg plates to them all :o

Ah I thought you were around Tipp. Lots of Renault dealers in Tipp at the time. I'm amazed to hear that Chamade ended up in Wicklow. I'd imagine it's long gone.

R19s seem to have all but disappeared. And they were a great car in their day, friend had a RSI turbo diesel saloon around 2003-4 (think it must have been an import;we irish didn't trust our diesels with a turbo in the early 90s ;)) and it was a flier. The heavy iron diesel made it handle like a pig tho, the petrols were much more sure footed, and the n/a diesel was slooooooow

That Chamade you said you knew was a N/A with no power steering. It was incredibly heavy I'm told.

    Don't remember the number plates but;

1979 Opel Cadet Estate: Absolute heap! I used to be so embarrassed getting out of it when we got to school.
1988 Fiat Uno: Fine for city driving, god help you if you wanted to go over 40mph though
1990 Toyota Carina: Covered the country in this fine car
1991 Honda Civic EF: Black, 1.5 if I remember right
    1992 Dahaitsu Charade 1.0: :o
1993 Mazda 323: Lovely car, was nicked the day Ireland played Spain in the world cup in 2002
1995 Nissan Primera P10: Car I learned to drive in. Loved it.
1997 Fiat Marea Estate 1.8: It was like driving in your bed, so comfortable :p
1997 Hyundai Coupe 1.6: Green, nice car.
2001 Hyundai Coupe 2.0: Midnight blue, its awesome. Needs a respray but would probably cost more than the car is worth.

He drives a BMW 318 right now, 02-D-20020. Fine car, helps that his OH knows a BMW mechanic who keeps it running as sweet as a nut.
