Gaming Laptop

    Hi Folks,

I'm looking to acquire a gaming laptop in the near future that won't have any difficulty playing current games (FPS/RTS) at the highest settings and will ensure smooth game play for the next 2-3 years. 17 inch is preferable.

I'm not the most knowledgeable in this regard. Price isn't as important as value for money. I'd prefer to spend a little more and get great value for money rather than spending a lot for an inferior machine.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers!

I would recommend having a look around the pcspecialist website . Have you got any budget in mind for your laptop ?

This looks like bells and whistles to me but others will know better, £500 off the full price but still expensive.

That is a great machine but I would look at pcspecialist.co.uk . Their laptops are more upgrade friendly which will add more life to the purchase .
I have an alienware and have just bought an Ati hd 7970 to go in it . It had got a crossfire 5870 setup in it . I paid a fortune for it but I'm still using it and can upgrade after 3 years of ownership .

I cant make pcspecialist work for me price wise, maybe it's me.

I compared that Msi spec against the PCS site and couldn't come up with anything that I would go for, I know it's not like for like.

I'm in the market for a desktop replacement laptop 17.3, i7 4th gen.

The Lenovo g710 i7 although not exactly the same spec as the Cosmos II works out about €100 less.

The one I was looking at was this one, not really for gaming but a good spec.

    That's about €850.

    Hi all,

Have been thinking of buying a 17" mid-performance gaming laptop, at around 1000 -1200 euro. Require a custom configuration so also looking at the likes of pcspecialist. Purchased a high performance desktop from them last year and very impressed with the build and the service.

Easily overlooked is the "Reviews" link at the top of their home page. There they list a Optimus V X 17 model laptop sent to Hexus.net for review selling at £879stg plus carriage to Ireland (£19). Decent spec at this price, 17" matte full hd (1920x1080), i7-4700MQ and Nvidia GeForce® GTX 765M. Click the red "Order Now" to see the full spec. No changes allowed to get it at this price but you can save £100 here compared to using their full configurator if spec is ok for you. You can read the Hexus review, HERE.

As an alternative to pcspecialist I'm also looking at MYSN Schenker UK They do a model similar in spec and design to the MSI G70 referenced in post #4, called the XMG C703 but with the flexibility to spec to your needs.. With 17" matte full hd (1920x1080), i7-4700HQ , Nvidia GeForce® GTX 765M, 8GB ram@1600MHz, 750GB WD Black@7200rpm, Backlit keyboard and Win 7 HP works out at £1015stg with 2 year collect & return guarantee. Delivery with DHL is £23 extra. Here is a link to a review at NotebookCheck . Note the slim design of these models means no internal dvd disk tray fitted. Not a deal breaker for me but the high temperature issues raised in the review are more of a concern.

Therefore I'm thinking of their XMG A723 model as a more long term prospect. For instance the same spec as above, albeit without the backlit kyb, for £894stg plus delivery. May not look as sleek as MSI G70 / XMG C703 and much heavier, but gives that Haswell processor and video card more room to breathe.

    Cheers,

    Alan
