Gay Cliques

Hey I'm a 25 y/o gay guy and my best friend is a gay girl. Since we met in college almost 9 years ago we hung out all the time on the scene etc (I know it sounds sad but we were almost joined at the hip haha)... Last year she moved in with her GF and doesn't really go out any more so I started to hang out with a bunch of gay guys on the Dublin scene.

Thing is with these guys there was always an agenda, always drama and none of them ever seemed genuinely interested in each others lives....it was all fake, and not to sound bad or anything - but it was handy for me to head out with them as I was just getting drunk anyways. Last month the group (unsurprisingly) fell apart because one dude slept with another dudes BF and blag blah blah but now everyone has their own little seperate cliques.

I've decided to take a step back and not get involved with any of them as I wouldn't consider them to be my "genuine" friends anyway. However it is extremely frustrating as without this 'clique' I'm finding myself stuck in and essentially isolated from the gay scene (I did head out alone a few weekends ago but it wasn't a pleasant experience).... My question is do you have a particular gay group that you hang with or do you head on the scene with your mates regardless of their orientation, or are you brave enough and go it alone?

It be nice to hear ur stores.

    T.

There are plenty of cliques everywhere, I do find it that way on the gay scene. I've never really gotten into it. Since I've moved a bit of a distance away from my main social circle I've found getting out on a Friday/Saturday night a bit of a struggle unless I head back home or head out with work without getting into one of these cliques. I'm an outspoken person, I've found them to be quite judgmental; they are incompatible traits.

It's no big deal. We are grown ups now after all. All I need is to find one individual to share the sofa with. So far, the search continues :)

The scene is heavily fragmented. I was just having a discussion about this today with my friend. Not only do you have the 'scene', you also have many, many subcultures. For guys in particular, there's the bears, the twinks, the kinksters, non-scene, etc. It can be confusing. It's only recently with the Panti business that the community has come together as one.

Outhouse have quite a few social groups that do meetups. There's also Gloria (choir), a gay runners club, places like Front Lounge which have more of a 'neutral' environment to meet people, online sites where you can find friends, sure even here if you see someone that's on your wavelength, drop them a PM and arrange to meet!
