Will missing dust covers on rear shocks cause an NCT failure?

    Hi all,

    Any NCT testers here? :)

    Need to confirm whether or not missing dust covers \ rubber boots on rear shocks will cause an NCT failure.

    Just replaced the rear shocks on wifes car today because one of them was gone but only noticed today that the existing dust covers were worn away to nothing.

    I can see in the NCT manual that missing dust covers for joints\links\bushings can cause a failure but it's not clear if the condition of the rear shock dust covers matters.

    Can't see how this would affect safety, although it will cause shocks not to last as long. I do plan to install dust covers soon but not before NCT on Friday!

    Pic below of new shock and remainder of dust cover - for information

    Cheers

    I saw a failure last week for missing bump stops which is the beige coloured piece of foam that is worn away.
    You need to get dustcovers and bump stops IMO.

    not really... you still have time to reschedule the test ....you can do it online, heres the link https://ncts.ie/booking_app/Bookings/ManageBooking.aspx?language=english# kinda pointless doing the test when you know for certain it will fail.

    @Sawdoubters: Why did you give us that link? It's the whole NCT test manual and the OP made it clear he has seen the manual (it's in bold print in post 1). If there is something you want to draw to our attention do a cut-and-paste.

    Update;

    I chanced it anyway and well it turns it didn't fail on the dust covers missing from the rear shocks

    Twas a very wet night and rainwater was pissing out from the chassis so maybe the mechanic was sick of getting dripped on and sped her through...

    My 728 went through several NCTs with crinkled up dust boots, I don't think it's a major thing for the NCT guys.

    Then again my bump stops weren't in the same state as yours. :D
