Ok, so let's say you've been interested in someone for a good while (a few years), but have never been able to say it for various reasons, i.e. already taken (now single a while). You've worked together, but have only been out on a couple of occasions (not dates), and have got on extremely well. You both have stayed in touch.

It comes to a time where you want to tell her you're interested in her (which would most certainly be out of the blue for her), but it's the usual thing of fearing a possible fallout, or possible awkwardness. It's just hard to know what the reaction might be. And, she is a lovely person in general.

In my case, considering the length of time we've known one another, chances are there are probably no mutual feelings, interests and that differ (not that it quite matters), among some other things, is it worth risking things to tell her your feelings? Or, perhaps is it best to just leave things be and try to forget the feelings? As I say, we haven't been out together in ages, but have met on occasions briefly. I have asked before about meeting for a drink, and she's been up for it, but has mentioned including one or two others we both know. That's going back a few months, but I did ask again yesterday while we were chatting, but I don't think that message was read.

Anyway, it's probably a silly question with an obvious answer, and I realise similar issues have probably been raised here before.

You've nothing to lose by telling her. Even if she's not interested she'll be nice about it and you'll be free to find someone who is. Or you could say nothing and she could be seeing someone else soon and you'll have to wait another couple of years before having this dilemma all over again!
