Relisting an item

    Hi!
Looking for some advice from some other ebay sellers.
I have a buyer that has not paid for an item and I emailed twice, sent an invoice and filed a dispute resolution. During this time, I checked their ebay history and they were actively buying and selling).
The buyer then emailed me and said they can't pay me because they are awaiting payment for something else.
I replied to say 'can't pay, don't bid' etc and I would be relisting the item. No response from the seller to that.
So I was wondering should I go ahead and relist, or do I have to wait and go through the channels?
    THANKS!

There's a bit a of risk involved if you relist without cancelling this transaction first. The first person may still pay and if you've already resold it, they could report you for non performance or leave feedback.
You only have 2 option to cancel. You can send a cancellation request... but if it's not accepted, you'll still be tied to the sale and will lose out on fees. The other option is to open an unpaid item case, you can do this 48 hours after the auction, and you can then close it 4 days later to receive a fee credit and cancel the transaction. Bear in mind, if it's paid for in that time, you're still tied to the transaction.
Now, no one can make you sell to this person, and if you want to relist, you could cancel the auction if they pay before it ends.
If you're not too bothered about your account standing though, it really doesn't matter. One non performance report will do no harm, and if they leave feedback, a reasonable reply does a lot to improve how buyers perceive a negative.

Thanks for the reply. I had already filed the unpaid item case, but it closed when I asked buyer to cancel transaction. I don't expect I will hear anything back. So looks like I will go back to the unpaid transaction to get this over with.

If you sent a cancellation request and he hasn't replied, you will be able to cancel it yourself (or it may be automated) after 7 days of sending it and receive the fee credit also. I suppose, go with whichever is quicker. With the unpaid item, the buyers account gets a mark. Again, one does nothing, but 2 means, he can be easily blocked by you and other users, and ebay do eventually take action against serial non payers.

Yeah, it can be a pain. Have you set up any buyer requirements?

I used to, but felt it put off buyers. I think I will reinstate though right now. Actually can do create a general buyer requirement for all listings?

Like that, I wouldn't mention it in the listing. People would be put off by seeing something like ''must pay by...'' or something along those lines.
    There's a guide here:
    http://pages.ebay.ie/help/sell/buyer-requirements.html#specifying

This is what mine looks like:
    Don't have a PayPal account
Have received 2 unpaid item(s) recorded on their account within 12 month(s)
Have a primary delivery address in a location I don't post to
Have 4 policy breaches reported within 6 month(s)
Have a Feedback score of -1 or lower

If it's a constant probably, it's worth doing. I used to have about 20% of items ending in non payment. I've only had one in about 200 sales since I updated this.

Wow thanks for your help! I'll look into all that.
