Long story short, my current car (03 1.6 fiesta) has to go - I could write a significant thread about the last month of heartbreak.

I'm on the lookout for something newer and it's relatively urgent as I need it for work. Talking to the aul' fella (mechanic with 40 years experience), he's pointing me towards a Honda or a Toyota, he swears by the reliability of their slightly older models which just happen to be around the price range that I'm sticking to.

I'm not overly fussed on looks or poke but just need something reliable that's not going to break the bank. I'm going to have a look at this Corrolla later on today. I think this one is a good representation of the kind of car I'm looking for. I'm very aware that this "dealer" is selling cars from a private residence so I want to be as armed with as much info as possible. Anything I should be particularly looking out for?

Any opinions or advice from ye wise people? Should I be expanding my search to other makes and models?
