Buying new BMW - negotiations?

So I'm thinking of buying a new BMW. Yes indulgent, I know. Just wondering, what is the scope for negotiating on price? BMW have their car configurator which seems to give you a pretty exact price, and then they add delivery charges and one or two other bits and pieces.

If I have a trade-in, that's obviously an opportunity to negotiate. But without a trade-in, would they ever give some discount for paying cash upfront (like in the old days)?

trading in is usually a chance for them to try to shaft you

The cash thing doesn't work anymore. They don't want cash, they want you signed up to finance or bank transfer or card payment.

Paying cash in motoring terms refers to buying without trading in an old car. It does not refer to the method of payment.

You will always get a better deal by not having a trade in.

Do not pay anywhere near the advertised price if buying straight (no trade in).
Some of the fleet guys on here might have a good idea of discount available.
I got 6% off new audi in 08 but its a different country now in terms of car sales so I dont know what its like now.

Wont get anything near to 6% off a new BMW. I'd say 4.5% discount would be a good deal with no trade in. Maybe slightly more if it's a car that's already in stock and needs to be moved.

The configurator shows an ex-works price, so add on €895 for delivery.

Tip - BMW dealers have monthly targets, not quarterly, so a better deal might be got in the last week of the month if you're ready to move.

If you're not in a hurry, maybe wait until July, head to the UK and get a January registered one?

If you buy one in the UK, I think if it is more than six months old you don't have to pay the VAT when you import it.

They want finance alright as they get a kick back. Bank transfer maybe but certainly not a card transaction. Can you imagine the fees associated with it!

PCP might be the way to go if they give a dealer contribution of 5+% and low interest rate under 5%. Im not sure if you can get such a deal though.

Over in the UK they were giving brand new m135s for around 3k stg a year inc vat on a 10000 mile lease with a small deposit of 1k or so. So BMW are desperate to shift cars. The standard discount on a 6 series over there is something like 20% without really trying. Here its a different story but the cars themselves the subject of negotiation are the same.

Check the discounts off drive the deal in the UK and account for the greater vat and vrt here and you should have an idea of what they are really worth.

Depending on what you want, a brand new 6 Series would be cheaper to buy through drivethedeal, paying the 23% VAT and the VRT.

6 Mo and 6000 miles though. The whole point though of getting a new car is that its new not the reg plate which is for someone elses benefit not yours unless you look at resale.
I think that Ireland is a strange car market. It just closed up here and there is no leasing market with good deals- ie the manufacturers haven't muscled into as it isn't worth their while as too small and they aren't too desperate to sell cars that haven't even reached Irish shores whereas in larger markets the cars are parked up and have to be moved with deals if need be.
If you have the cash to burn then go for it though. I would only look at drive the deal to get a price, add the vrt and vat and then take it to a bmw dealer to beat and see where that takes you.

Did a quick check on Drive the deal and a new Z4 28 245bhp manual is coming in at 27 with a 7500 discount. That's over 20%. How can they do when the cars are sourced via BMW dealers in the UK?
