Saorview Problem Not picking up all Channels

Have 3 tvs getting saorview but a few days ago they all stopped working, It turned out to be the distribution unit that is fed from the aerial in the attic. Since I've replaced this there no signal on some.

TV 1: Furthest from aerial, LG TV with digital tuner picking up all saorview channels including rte 1

TV 2: Underneath aerial, oldish samsung tv with seperate tuner box. Will pick up all stations except RTE 1.

TV 3: Underneath aerial, Techwood TV with digital tuner. Wont pick up any stations at all.

Have checked aerial connections and all seem fine, TV 1 works perfect even with splitters so its not them.
Have also rescanned TV 2 & 3 but nothing new found

These were all working fine up to the unit breaking

Any ideas I've been as clear as I can be I think. any help would be great

What was the make/model of the original 'distribution unit'? What did you replace it with?

The old unit was fringe electronics and was replaced with another fringe electronics one

How many outputs does it have? Do you have the model no.? Where do the splitters you mention in your OP fit in?

I have had the exact same problem except that the two tv's not receiving a signal are almost brand new with Saorview approved internal tuners.
This only became an issue when Saorview introduced a 2nd mux when providing RTE 1 HD, I, like you, have been left with two lemons, have had to hook up two old Sky boxes to get the free to air channels.......great FREE service or wha' !!!!

That problem is due to your own receiving aerial & distribution system not being up to the job. Nothing to do with Saorview.

The service is free-to-air but, it's your responsibility to make sure there is a usable signal at the receivers.

True, but they were working perfectly upto the change to mux2 - very annoying I'm sure.

It has 2 outputs, cant see a model no. but pic of exact unit below. I have tried splitter in both outputs separate and have tried different ways to using the splitter with them all coming from one output for example.

Have just checked there again and have rte for tv 2 but on channel 11 which I know is some new thing

The old unit is a power supply for a 'masthead' amplifier: these amps can be mounted outdoors on the aerial mast or in an attic where no power is available. The PSU provides low-voltage DC via the aerial downlead.

The new unit is an actual distribution amp, with no line-powering capability, so won't be powering the 'masthead' amplifier. I would think any signal it's providing to the TVs would be being picked up on the lead between the masthead amp & distribution amp.

You can try removing the masthead amp & install the dist. amp in the attic, near the aerial. Or just get another PSU, though you would need to be sure the PSU is at fault & not the amplifier itself. Or just a bad connection, or cable mix-up.

Just to clarify the old and new units have a power supply plugged into the wall. PSU mean power supply unit ye?

Do you know the offical name of the type of unit i've to buy?

Chancing my arm, just bypassed the distribution unit and fed it down to the tv's no change except no rte 1 on TV 1.

The old unit is a power supply, for a remotely located amplifier. The pictured unit itself is not an amplifier.

If you want to try it again, make sure the aerial cables are connected to the right socket: cable from the attic to socket labeled 'AMP', cables feeding TVs to 'TV SET'.

Thats the way it was set up and triple checked every cable was right to the same method your saying.

Its definitely the unit, so I've to get another unit that says amp and tv set, not inputs and outputs.

Am I right in what im saying?

These are the latest Fringe versions: http://fringeelectronics.co.uk/page13.html, though anything that provides the correct voltage & current would do. I'd go for 1 with f-connectors.

Might be no harm to track down the amplifier itself & post any model info.

Ye f connectors would be a better job alright, ye havnt a clue where it could be thought I knew where the aerial was in the attic but couldnt find it and wasnt in the mood to chase cables.

Thanks for all the help I'll report back to let you know if a new unit solves the problem.

    Cheers

These problems arise when the receiving setup doesn't provide any signal margin to cope with the day-to-day vagaries of radio reception.

A 'best effort' attic aerial install I did for a friend (should really have been outdoors but 'isn't allowed' apparently) was providing stable but borderline mux 1 reception but these 'vagaries' conspired to deliver mux 2 reception better than mux 1, so no complaints of lost channels.

The people that post complaints here would have installations delivering similar mux 1 signal but got the flip side of poorer mux 2.

It was a new power unit needed like Peter Rhea said. Everything is back to normal and working perfect :)

    Thanks

Glad it worked & always good to get confirmation that advice was useful.

Install an outdoor aerial - http://www.saorview.ie/get-saorview/make-the-switch/step-2-check-aerial/, your indoor aerial isn't good enough.
