RTE in Northern Ireland

    Hi,
    I'm in County Antrim.

I've moved from Sky to BT's television service.
I got RTE1 and RTE2 perfectly with Sky, but I can't get anything with BT.

How do I get RTE with BT? I think it's something to do with Saorview but I'm not sure what exactly that entails!

    Cheers!
    S.

You would need to be able to connect an aerial to the BT TV receiver. Or even just to your TV set, if it has the right tuner on board: post the make & model.

And of course, you also need to be in a part of Antrim that can get a usable Saorview or NImux signal.

Sorry, just seeing the sticky at the top of the thread list.
Could a mod please move this thread?

Moved to Terrestrial I'd imagine in Antrim it is NI mini mux signal you are after rather than Saorview.

Have a look at this Ofcom combined Saorview/NI Mux coverage map - http://consumers.ofcom.org.uk/files/2012/07/NIMuxFactsheet4.pdf

Also have a look at the Saorview coverage checker to see what coverage is like in your location - http://www.saorview.ie/get-saorview/make-the-switch/coverage-map/

    Thanks.
    I'm in Antrim town.
Do I just buy a separate box or do I need an aerial?

It's for my parents. (I have Sky and get RTE through that).
They used to get analogue RTE through a booster aerial, and had it why Sky, but they've change and BT is ****e.

They need an aerial. If the old one worked for analogue RTE from Clermont Carn, it will still work for Saorview, assuming of course it's still there & in good condition.

Is their TV a relatively recent model? They won't need a box if the TV is capable of decoding the Saorview signal.

Antrim town IIRC has plenty of RTE aerials so getting the Saorview channels shouldn't be a problem. I know of friends with BT box who can pick up both Saorview and NI mini-mux so if correct aerial is connected to box you should be receiving Saorview.

I have the BT vision box which doesn't have a hd tuner so I can't receive the NI mini-mux but I can receive saorview. I have a rte aerial and could get the old analogue signal, not great but since the digital switch over I get pictures perfect.

Can you use the same aerial for the digital signal?

In Antrim town, it's practically certain you would be getting ROI TV from Clermont Carn, in Louth. So you can use the same aerial as used for analogue.

Mentioned it in my last post in this thread.
