Working Visa Info

    Hi,

I am planning on moving to the states to work later this year, it will be a relocation move for me and my visa would be handled by the job. My question is for any one who has experience in this would my girlfriend qualify on my visa? Would she need to apply seperately ? She is qualified in childcare and with me assured a job I cant see why she would not get one.
What are the main reasons for refusals of visas?

    Thanks
    S

Girlfriend as in, not legally married? There is no girlfriend visa for the USA.
Even some spousal visas to work visas do not allow work.

She would need to qualify on her own, but childcare will not be good enough- plenty of Americans who can do that, unless she has specialised qualifications such as special needs therapy etc.

AFAIK none of the spousal visas automatically allow the spouse to work. Even if for some visas there isn't a risk in getting the employment authorization document the application still needs to be made.

Could she even travel with the OP as a girlfriend, attached to his visa ?

Nope, she could only travel on her own visa (b2 etc). Girlfriend/partner can't be attached visa, only spouse.

My wife came over on L2 and was able to work when she got her EADS, which was a given even though it was a formality to go through.

I have some workmates that are on H1b and their spouses cannot work

They do really make it hard to move over and work.

Is there a visa for a carer. Say to look after someone that can't leave the house all the time

Such a visa does not yet exist but is planned in 2015 as part of the Immigration bill. Google "W visa"

So that bill is still going ahead. My cousin has asked if I would come over to look after Her kids. She is a lawyer by trade

Sorry but it's very, very difficult to legally move to the US and work. Even in this case it would your cousin to apply for the visa for you which can cost several thousand euro (though we have few details on the future W visa costs).

It mostly came out cause the husband is in the air force and travels a lot.

If you're living together for over a year she can get a H1 visa, but she can't work on that. I did this before, I was an L1B, my girlfriend came on a H1.

from what i read the visa is mostly for work that locals won't do.

Your relative could find more than enough legal south american immigrants to fill that role at minimum wage.

also the cost would still be there -a few 1000 will be the usual cost of visas

    I know it isn't cheap.
