This has probably been covered before, but I want to get my camera equipment insured and am wondering what is the best way to go about it. I'm an amateur but I have about 3k worth of gear. I was thinking of getting contents insurance but would I be covered if I lost/broke my equipment outside? Or is there an Irish company that deals specifically with camera equipment?

Have a word with "Balfey1972" on here.

camerainsurance.ie is the place to go.

BTW, it's cheaper to get professional insurance, rather than amateur insurance. So, if you only earn a few euro, then you should get professional insurance.

I filled out the quotation form on that site. Just waiting to hear back from them. It looks like it could be fairly expensive though. It says the minimum policy premium is €143.00 and a €275.00 excess applies to the equipment.

I got a quote on protectyourbubble.com for under 100 euro so I'll just wait and see what quote camerainsurance give me.

might be cheaper to add it to your home contents insurance. ring them and see what they say.

Protect you bubble sounds like one of those companies that has small print along the lines of, "no equipment is covered unless stolen during daylight hours from a locked unicorn"

Hmm... I'm not too sure about that, but I'll read the small print before I make any decisions just to be on the safe side.

Insurance companies will use any excuse to avoid paying out on a claim. The reason a lot of companies offer really low premiums is because they increase the number of clauses under which you aren't covered.

Well I just got a quote back from camerainsurance.ie of €238. However it says the area where I store my equipment must me a five lever mortice deadlock on all doors and key operated window locks on all ground floor plus any other accessible windows. It seems its aimed more at professionals who own a studio. Plus there's an extra €400 charge if the equipment is stolen from my car. Not worth a shyte to me basically. I think I'll go with protectyourbubble.com.

Davey, I sent you a PM about insuring your equipment.
Its a hell of a lot cheaper than what you've been quoted.
    Look at your PM's
