Vodafone Broadband - 25-day waiting period?

Long story short - I'm acting as the middle man in trying to facilitate a family friend in getting Vodafone home and phone installed in his home.

He cancelled his phone line with Eircom last week but, due to work-related reasons, he could not cancel the internet too.

I phoned a Vodafone representative this morning and she explained to me that the man in question cannot get Vodafone broadband in his home until the deal with his existing ISP - Eircom - is cancelled, before waiting a further 25 days for Vodafone's product to hooked up.

Considering it is 2014 and how often the internet is used in the modern world, it seems odd and not very appealing that a prospective customer must wait that length of time before being able to use the internet.

Did the woman I spoke to get the wrong end of the stick, or is the 25-day thing an accurate time frame?

I know about the Vodafone sub-forum, but they left at 17:00 until Monday. Perhaps one of you can enlighten me.

    Thanks.

If the line was cancelled, it will have to be connected. He could have just ported the line to Vodafone, rather than cancelling the line.

Getting a number ported takes 24-48 hours for voice and then 7-10 working days after that for broadband.

Mr G is correct. The're now going through the process of provisioning a new line which takes longer.
