All I had to do today was cut rushes for making crosses tonight and go shooting. Woke up with a soar neck, pure sickened. The shooting season is as far away as ever again:( hope everyone had a safe season.

Out myself from 2pm till 5ish met nothing not even a crow or pigeon was a disappointing first year ( pheasants) a lot of long hard days with nothing to show except a couple of pheasants ,on the plus side the dog came on really well ( tough days with him too)I'm really looking forward to the next season with him ,hopefully a new gun soon and plenty of practice on pigeons and clays, learned a lot so thanks to everyone for their help and advice.

Myself and my young lad headed for ducks first thing yesterday morning with no joy.It was the worst morning flight of the season. in the evening we met up with 2 lads that we've been shooting with all season for the last flight of the season. A mate of mine tagged along too. We split up,myself, m mate and my son setting up on a flooded field and the other 2 boys going onto a callows on the opposite side of the road. A pair of mallard got up as we headed in,no shot. We had teal and widgeon flying in over us but were too high. My lad dropped a teal but it kept diving and the springer couldnt get it. The other 2 boys manager to get 9 between them,1 of whick was the biggest drake widgeon I've seen. All in all it was a great season. Bagged way more duck than last year. Still waiting on getting that illusive goose. Highlights have to be my son getting his licence this year and he is a cracking shot to boot. Another has to be training my young lab who after a few mistakes on my behalf, came into her own nearing the end of the season. She'll be a flyer come next September. The only downside was no water until nearly November, then we got too much lol. Only 201 days to go til it all starts again but whos counting?????? ME lol

I am sitting by the fire, half watching the rugby and catching up on filling in the game diary that I got as a present at the start of the season. Some might think they are silly, but I think it will be nice to look back on.

I had a great year this year, got some great invites around the country and hopefully I made the return invites as enjoyable and those I didn't get to return are first on the list for next year!

I had a number of highlights for me this year. The highlight shots for me, was a left and then a right woodcock just after christmas. Two birds, two cartridges and less than 2 seconds. The luck was with me on that shot!! It's shots like that and then the stories with friends of it that night that make shooting something that I know I will keep as a pastime for the rest of my life.

The other highlight for me was tagging along with two lads who very kindly offered to take me out for a days stalking. I've been so interested to get in to the deer that this year I finally plucked up the courage to just be cheeky and ask someone to take me out. I'm sure now that it's something I want to continue doing and am now saving/deciding on what rifle to go with and getting ready for my application. On that note, I know seasons are drawing to a close (Are nearly all closed by now??) but if there are any boards lads out there who would be willing to help me out, I'd greatly appreciate it. From what I gather, there is still a couple of days left for female antlerless deer so if anyone relatively local to me needs a fit 21 year old to help with the heavy lifting, I'd love to come for th experience. Nobody in my immediate family stalks so I'm learning from everywhere I can!

This year, I also became much more confident with the birds that I shot during the season. I used to leave them to my father, but I'm more than happy to do it now. It's all confidence and you need to just get over the fact that you can't really do anything that horrifically wrong when plucking/drawing etc etc. Cooking and eating game that i;ve shot is extremely satisfying!!

I'm looking forward to warmer nights during the spring summer out at the foxes and rabbits and the rabbit recipes that follow! Looking forward to reading everyone elses entries to this thread! Hope everyone had a safe season!
