Sigelei 20 issue...advice needed

I am having an issue with the Sigelei 20, I’m new to mods & I’m hoping any of you vaping boardsies could give me some advice…

    Using a Sigelei 20 + Sigelei Kick + 18500AW batteries.

Inserting Kick (power setting is set to midway) using the correct polarity at the top-cap end, inserting 18500 battery (positive terminal first) & adjusting telescopic accordingly.

Switch on & I’m getting smoke, burning smell & end tube & button getting hot.

Taking it apart & I’ve got a black compressed spring & plastic on negative terminal of battery melted?!

Only new out of the box from http://www.e-smokeireland.eu/

    What am I doing wrong?

    Any advice appreciated…

Inserting the battery + first makes it sound like you're placing the battery down into the tube, positive to the bottom. The positive should be towards the atty, kick dial towards the atty.
Might've picked that up wrong, but usually the button for that mod is the last thing installed on top of the kick and battery.

You weren't anywhere near Sellafield when this happened were you?

1/ Inserting Kick first, positive towards atty...CHECK

2/ Inserting battery second, positive towards atty...CHECK

3/ Screwing end cap on to secure...CHECK

This is the procedure I followed Grindle, is this correct?

Doesn't sound like you've done anything wrong, it should be fine.
Presuming you weren't trying to fire a 0.1ohm coil:
It sounds like the button is shorting, apparently a known issue with the Sigelei 20 because they screwed up the design of the button - if any good conductor crosses between the button and the body while the button is pressed you have a hard short, zero resistance.
You weren't wearing a chainmail suit I hope... Anything from a ring to machining shards crossing that gap would cause a hard short once that button is pressed.
I'd return it, personally. Fairly dangerous design flaw that's already cost a battery and possibly a Kick.
Or did it fire without even pressing the button?

Thanks for the advice Grindle, I'm pretty disappointed, was looking forward to firing up my first mech-mod.

I was using an Aspire Nautilus with a 1.8ohm coil, switched on & got a clicking sound & smoke, a nasty burning smell & the end tube & button got very hot (burned my thumb considerably) :(

I've contacted the vendor & requested a return for testing & a warranty claim ASAP

Confidence is a little dented I have to say :o, but I went ahead & purchased a Vamo V5 APV mod & 2 x 18650 AW IMR batteries, mech mods probably not for me...yet :)

Having to purchase new batteries sucked as I only just bought 2 x 18490/1850 AW IMR batteries 2 weeks ago for the Sigelei 20 & they don't fit the Vamo V5

Wouldn't take it to heart, you just picked the wrong mech mod.

Always Google the name of whichever mod and the word 'problem' - if there are known issues that come up repeatedly it's probably a good idea to avoid, especially if that problem has anything to do with shorts or firing without pressing buttons or the like.
