Closing old extractor fan hole - expandable foam?

    Hi Folks,

New kitchen being fitted and a new hole for new cooker hood/extractor fan required. The old one was rectangular in shape - probaly 9 inches by 6 inches in size. Cavity block used in house build, with steel bar vent on external wall.

To close up the old hole I was thinking of filling with expandable foam. The inside is being tiled over so the tiler could just tile over the foam then.

any issues with using expandable foam? would i need to put a damp proof lining inside the vent before filling to avoid the foam possibly getting wet?

    Cheers,
    Mick

I filled 2 large holes I had with expanding foam then polyfilled over and painted. Still perfect 2 years on. Can't see any cold bridge problems especially if you are tiling over it.
