Running on the Road? Where do you run?

    Hi,

I've been thinking of starting running for quite a while now. Im male, 88kg and want to lose weight but I seem to be stuck for ideas on where to run. The easiest and most convenient (seeing as I live out the country) option is to run on the roads. The local roads are quiet enough but some traffic can be quite quick and that kinda worries me a little. I do see some neighbours using them for running though so maybe I fear easily. Ive tried running on treadmills before but I just cant use them at all. I cant seem to use them at a quick pace (nearly fell off one:o) or for any long intervals.

So im asking where do you guys do your running mostly?roads?gym?running trails?

Roads, trails, parks, hills, pavements... Wherever.

Enough procrastination - just get out there!
Wear some hi-viz stuff if running on country roads. If there is no pavement, run on the right hand side of the road (facing oncoming traffic) and on dangerous bends, safely move to the other side of the road, so you ate not heading into a blind corner.

I do about 99% of my running on roads and the vast majority of those are country roads especially for my longer runs, never really had any major problems during the years with any motorists.

As long as you use common sense, during winter months have something bright/reflective on you'll be seen, if its getting dark or you plan on running them when its dark (like I do each morning) then pick up a headtorch.

Try avoid using music as your awareness on your surroundings is lost, i quickly abandoned the ipod as running on main roads one needs to stay alert and safe.
