    What would a Mazda 6 1.8 petrol 03-05 120k miles be worth?

Is it 03, 04, or 05, obviously the newer the bigger the price but they don't make big money. Face lift 06 models sell for around €3k so an 03 with 120k miles is only worth €1200 max and with the amount of them for sale I'd say you'd be lucky to actually get that. 04/05 would make maybe few hundred more per year so maybe €1750 for an 05 with that mileage.

I was looking at them recently too, you have an absolute multitude of them
to choose from so don't be in any rush and look for something with sub 100k miles. Look out for rust on the rear arches, which seems to be a real problem on many of them too.

What would you think of this one?

no alloys no front fogs and 122K, I think there are better ones out there. Price is good though.

Most Mazda 6s of that generation didn't come with front fog lights, even on top spec models. Also 122k miles is not above average for a 10 year old car. However that particular car looks very tired and probably had a hard 122k miles over the last 10 years, the hitch, dent and almost expired NCT don't inspire confidence but then again it is an €800 car.

you wont see front fogs on any pre facelift mazda 6 from pics, they were built into the headlight and only came on sport models afaik
i bought a very clean 03 touring spec with 110k miles and a 13month nct for 1500 a month ago OP, although it needed about 150e in parts which ive now fitted

I have a 03 hatchback with just under 100k on the clock. Will likely be giving it away at some point later in the year to my father-in-law. If he wants it that is.

I'm currently driving a 2008 newer model 2ltr petrol automatic Mazda 6. 142k km's on the clock. Seriously reliable cars.
I'm on my third year of ownership now and all ive done is routine service from the local mechanic and changed tyres obviously.
The auto is lovely too if you can find one that is. They seem rare enough. One of the main reasons i haven't sold mine yet is trying to replace with another auto is not easy.

I am in no rush just looking at the moment. If I could get one with alloys and a fresher car for 1500 I would be happy enough.

    Hi Sam,

Aim for the Sports Touring spec if you can, Air/Con and Cruise as standard and most of them pre 05 facelift had the sunroof as well.

I have mine (05) from new and currently coming up to 407,000km. Super reliability and comfort imo.

Things to look out for, spots of rust in the rear arches. Also a few coming up on my tailgate where the spoiler is bolted in.

To date I have had the following done:
Wheel bearings on both front wheels.
Brake calipers on both rear wheels.
1 clutch change, approx 40,000km ago.
3 batteries, last two from halfords, dubious about their staying power.
Approx 11 sets of tyres, lost count.
    Air Con refill.

Best of luck on the hunt, doubt it'll see you wrong.

The 6 is very overrated on boards Imo.

I mean they are not bad cars but they are cheaply built and rust badly on the arches and underneath.

Dunno about that. It's equally decent / boring as most other cars in its class (Passat, Avensis, Vectra, etc.) but more reliable yet cheaper than most of them

Makes them good value in my book...

The 2 ltr is very rare in Ireland. What is it like on fuel ?

assuming we are talking about petrols,

An avensis is just as reliable as a mazda 6 but is better built and has far better rust protection.

The avensis isn't as good dynamically as a mazda 6 and is more boring but it has a better quality cabin and is more refined in my experience, it also ages much better.

The mazda is better than a passat/vectra though but they are hardly great yokes in petrol form.

Theres a few if them about and theyre all auto. Youre right though, rare enough. Worth waiting for imo.

I do about 500km to a tank and that's with a lot of short trips. Get a bit more on longer stretches, probably about 550 or so.

I only do about 15k Km's per year so it doesn't bother me too much. I have thought about changing recently but it's hard to find another auto unless you upgrade to the likes of a 5 series or A6 or something which I'd love to do but could justify the spend.

True. But you forgot to mention an '05 Mazda 6 will go for €1,800. A similar Avensis will be more like €3k

Which of the two is great value for money and which is poor value for money? :)

I always find that an odd question. In mixed driving with emphasis on short trips in heavy traffic (greater Dublin area driving where half of the country live :)) there is very little between older skool petrol engines apart from the weight of the car

In my experience the difference between a lighter D-segment 1.8 petrol car and a heavy senior executive V8 petrol car is only something like 27
    MPG vs 20MPG

The difference in money even at todays petrol prices and 10k km per year is about €1.50 per day...

Even though an avensis is more expensive, i think in the long run it will prove better value for money because it will age better and rust far less in comparison to the 6.

Imho the best value for money of the two will be the one that is sold on after a few years for no more than a few hundred less than bought with next to zero spent in maintenance apart from basic servicing

The Avensis won't stand up to that challenge. It's too expensive to buy and it will depreciate too much

That said, if you buy a bangernomics car to hold onto for a long time - literally to run it into the ground - then you sure have a point!

If you want a bangernomic avensis go back before 03 and get the first model.
You can pick them up for nothing. I have the newer one and it is not as nice to drive as a mazda 6.

Being a 1.8 and cheap by nature I think a Mazda at €1800:will be in the same position, albeit at a lower price point. Some of these can be got for under a grand nowadays :)

The ad that I linked on donedeal, he is after getting it nct'd and has upped the price from €800 to €1050 as a result. Best of luck with that :)

I am on my second mazda 6 it's a 07 touring 1.8 before that I had a 05 comfort 1.8 which was in an accident (not my fault :)) I service it myself and any work I can't do I get a local mechanic who is very reasonably. I am getting 37 mpg average and got up to 44 mpg on the motorway one time :( I am looking for another mazda6 for my son.

€1050 asking for an '04 Mazda 6 with NCT till '15 is pretty reasonable still, isn't it? ;)

Maybe, but he shot himself in the foot putting it on for €850 2 weeks back then dropping it to €800 last week and now putting it up to €1050.

Looking at these myself. Think that one has a dent on the back bumper too. Couple of pictures taken at night, I never get that.
