Multi room with Horizon

Getting a new Horizon box. Have multi room at present - can I transfer DVR into second room (and thus keep existing recordings) and put horizon box where DVR currently is? I would return the bog standard box to UPC instead of the dvr. ie can I run dvr in one room and horizon in another? Or does UPC insist on getting dvr…
