    One of my favourite venues.
Always great golf and high excitement.
Some lovely par 3's with the crowd so close. Viewing galleries down both sides.

Pull up the armchairs lads and get a few cans in for a very enjoyable weekend.

Ohhh Buba.... now that is pushing it. An animal burrow in the middle of a bush interfering with his swing? Seriously?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53,063 ✭✭✭✭tayto lover

Should not get a free drop for that but it is in the rules.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,733 ✭✭✭SnowDrifts

Not so sure... the exception to the rule 25-1 is....

"Exception: A player may not take relief under this Rule if (a) interference
by anything other than an abnormal ground condition makes the stroke clearly
impracticable or (b) interference by an abnormal ground condition would
occur only through use of a clearly unreasonable stroke or an unnecessarily
abnormal stance, swing or direction of play"

It's just on the line I guess but clever of him to consider it. I think he would have taken an unplayable if no burrow hole so isn't that point A above?

agee 100%,f...ing disgusted by it,would it had made a difference to the shot?no chance

Yeah.. and he even went back to see where he could get relief if he was to take an unplayable so he wasn't going to play that shot. Commentators think it was just on the line but I'm not so sure...

For anyone who missed the Buba incident, here is a clip. The question you have to ask is if there was no animal burrow there, would he have played the shot or taken an unplayable?

And from the very start of the clip, you can see where he was looking to take an unplayable so I don't think he was ever going to attempt the shot. Therefore, he should not have gotten free relief.

going back to the comp I backed Brenda Steele this week at 25/1 and 66/1,i think he's still too big @33/1,Bubba should win but the red neck ***** might just choke

What he done may not be very good etiquette but at the end of the day all he done was use the rules to his advantage. He was probably thinking if I don't get relief then here is where I will take my unplayable.

I know if I was left with an impossible shot and I could use the rules to my advantage I would, I don't know why any one would not.

Edit- at the start of that clip he is showing the rules official a similar animal burrow to what is in the bush. That what it sounds like to me!

I think he will see out the win but you never know with bubba. He needs a win.

The point is that if he would need an unplayable from the tree then the animal scraping should be irrelevant.

I see your point about him going back to show a similar animal hole at the start. I was watching last night and I am nearly sure that before this, he was looking for his options for relief as an unplayable.

It's a tough one. If I was a referee, I would have said no free relief and then watch to see if he went to actually play the shot and stop him before he did :D
But I just think he was going to take an unplayable if he did not get free relief. There was no benefit to him hacking it out... there were lots of other bushes in front and he probably would have ended up in more trouble.

I was watching last night but didn't take much notice, but going by the clip I think he was just showing something because you can here him say something like "well in that case let me show u this".

I guess we will never know if he was going to play it unless he says so!

@greebo he didn't 'need' an unplayable he could hit it, wether or not he was going to take one is like above something we may never know.

Stadler must not have seen the rabbit scrapings. Had to take a penalty drop.

Game set and match me thinks. Nice to see Buba shout fore a few times... he doesn't always do that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,890 ✭✭✭DuckSlice

Why did he go driver? He could have just knocked a 3 wood up there and still have a pitching wedge in.

Great first win for stadler tho

Was Bubba blaming his caddy there for the line of the putt?

Yep. How that caddy doesn't wrap the putter around Buba's neck is beyond me!

He won't be getting a massive amount of money as bubba ain't winning anything!

Have to say I love that course.
Enjoyed the tournament but wanted a play-off at the end.
Bubba blew it. Took poor choices imo.
Not sorry for him after his free drop on Sat.

They don't have to win ;)
Caddie picked up 10% of Bubbas $545,000 cheque from the weekend.

Doesn't mean Bubba wasn't a d*ck, but I feel less sorry for them after that.
Caddy can't win, his fault if he misses, God gets the credit if it goes in.

Faldo said if it's left or right it's the golfers fault, long or short caddies fault during his commentary, in bubba's case everything is the caddies fault!

Stadler gets to join his dad in the Masters field, first time ever a father & son competing in the same year. That's pretty cool.

A bad way for Bubba to lose an event. His wedge on the playoff hole against oosthuizen versus that wedge over the back of 18....
Is it just me or were there a few caddies on both tours(bubba and Rory) who were just there for the ride yesterday?
