Why are very large companies taking on interns?
Why can't they give people ' real jobs'?
I just don't get it, it's understandable perhaps for a small ( perhaps cash strapped company) but huge companies with big budgets.

Internships are generally aimed towards people who are in college and are not yet qualified. Not being qualified means they can lower the wage expectation. People take them for the experience.

Many companies are advertising internships for jobs that require no college degree and minimal training as well. It's generally pure exploitation. I've taken to asking businesses I'd like to work for and learn their trade if they'd consider taking on an intern. No such luck yet though.

Yeah I was talking to a cousin who is looking for one. .Now some are utterly ridiclous for example an intern to be a waitress or waiter and then others specify the type of degree qualification they require. Does seem to be total exploitation as the person on the internship still has to get a social welfare payment, it's not a real job therefore and at the end of the internship the person might be turfed out, though one would hope not of course.Seems to me the big big guys are definitely taking advantage of the unemployment crisis. Milking it I'd say.
P.S Good luck with your search, hope you find one you really want, even better maybe you can haggle with the company for a salaried position, even on a part time basis.

Why the **** do you think??? Obviously it is as good as free labour. Internships are ruining the job market in this country and it has to stop. They can hire you for 6-9 months and then show you the door straight after if is nothing but a disgrace. Its time we start taking control of our country. The irish goverment has to go absolute disgrace.
