slatted tank modification

Hi, we've got an outside 'screw-type' agitation point on the tank ie one with 45 degree slope with tracks to slide in the agitator - its a hopeless system, and every year we end up taking out a slat and persuading in a big pump-type mixer, which does the job, but its an accident waiting to happen. The contractor says to simply fit a slat with an opening section, but I reckon you're still mixing with the lads indoors, not great. Would it be possible to convert the old outside mix-point to take a modern pump-mixer? Ta

slurry tanks and agitating are a sensitive subject alright.
Is the indoor agitating point well ventilated... Next to a big door?

Think it would be expensive modify the tank in comparison to doing what your contractor is suggesting.

Put a retractable roof on it. There was one on last weeks journal, I think. The guy had it so he could tip up artic trailers into the shed.
If you could slide a section of the roof to one side, it might be easiest.

I doubt it cos of the different sizes, that sounds very dangerous sticking the mixer beneath the slats

The spot where he takes the slat out is next to the door alright, but tis still a risky carry-on - think I'll have a look at a few outside agitation points and see how ours compares...

plenty of sheds have an internal agitating points right or wrong, at the very least you have to let cattle out every time you want to do anything with it but i suppose its not the end of the world..
im in the process of deciding on what to do with sheds at home, need more tank space, one contractors wants to add a tank onto end of existing shed without removing end wall so an agitation point would then be indoors, other contractor prefers to remove wall and join in new tank creating 1 bigger tank..not gone on either idea though
