Interesting one! Banned because the cyclist in the advert wasn't wearing the correct "safety gear", i.e. Hi-Viz, Helmets... (body armor? ;)

And wasn't cycling on the extreme left....

ASA withdraws 'cyclists must ride in the gutter' ruling

Advertising Standards Authority has withdrawn yesterday's controversial and factually incorrect ruling against Cycling Scotland

Is it possible to remove it on the basis that it's cringe worthy and once more categorises 'cyclist' as a second class road user to be tolerated rather than one with equal rights.
Not only does it do this but it now wants driver to see cyclists as a dumb animal, untrustworthy and unpredictable on the road (a short brain storm would at least have put the cyclists as jockeys not the horse itself).
Ridiculous waste of money and does nothing if not damage it view of road users who are not motorists.
It probably insults horses too but that's for a different forum.

You might be just ranting here.

I thought it was a good ad myself. It's catchphrase was good, relevant, and well catchy too.

Wonder if they purposely put a nice big pothole right in the line the cyclist is "supposed"to be cycling in. (Visible in the bottom right during the freeze frame at end of the ad)

Cyclists may have 'equal rights'. But unfortunately the 'laws of physics' doesn't see if that way. The motorist has a tonne of steel under his backside, and can do over a 100 mph, plus he is protected by crumple zones, air bags, seat belts etc. All the cyclist has is a bit of aero-board on his/her head (possibly). So you have a 'lethal weapon' and a 'non-lethal weapon' on the same piece of tarmac. So I think it is entirely appropriate to ask the motorist to 'slow down and give the cyslist a wide berth'.

I think it is a very good ad. Short, to the point, and you can easily remember the message.

Personally I think it's an excellent add. Bit funny at the start but gets the point across well. I can't imagine the creators were anti cycling or cyclists rights or anything like it but instead the opposite. I think it's quite clever as I'd be incredibly surprised that anybody who would pass a cycle within a foot or two would pass a horse just as close on a busy road. This add I think would make people think about how close they pass cyclists.

It might be something to do with the fact that a horse will do a lot more damage to a car than a cyclist.

Or, as the Love/Hate cat-murdering uproar showed, most people care a lot more about animals than about other people.
