I checked my phone, alcatel pop onetouch
    settings, phone memory =149 meg,
    140 meg used.
9meg avaidable free , to install apps.
    i read wired review,and checked on meteor.ie,
re PHONE specs ,it says 500meg flash memory.
I bought this phone ,on dec 10th ,2013.
I have about 10meg of apps installed ,
apart from the preinstalled apps ,
eg google play, maps ,google music,
    which cannot be uninstalled .
AM i missing something here ,
    i thought i ,d have at least
200 meg free to install apps.

The old samsung phone i bought in 2011 has 55meg flash memory to install apps.
i understand i can install apps on my 16gig sd card ,
my sd card has 11 gig free space on it.
BUT some apps require free space on the phone ,
regardless of what space is free on the sdcard .

IS the android os taking up the rest of the 512 meg
    memory ,

or is the phone faulty in some way?

Apart from that the phone is fine,

re playing music, or web browsing over wifi etc

    I click on settings,
    applications, All ,
it says internal storage, 141meg used, 9.4 meg free.

re ram ,i stopped maps, traffic manager, in settings, i have
    92meg used ,54 meg free ram .

IS it reserving 146meg flash memory for ram acess

people shouldnt buy phones with only 512mb ram as they cant hold very much. My original HTC desire was a great phone but it was seriously limited by this also

The only thing you can do its flash rom on that allows you to move apps to sd. Maybe it has this facility - check the system settings for applications if there is a button to move an app to sd
