Davosa Ternos

    Hi all,

I'm looking for a dive watch at the moment and am not at the point of buying a Sub, so I thought I'd get myself a homage and see if I can live with one. I've seen the positive reviews of the Steinhart on the forum but the Davosa Ternos is showing up on net searches, which based on the reviews I've seen seems to be superior to the Ocean 1.

So, do you guys have any experience of the Ternos and are there any opinions on Davosa in general ?

    Thanks in advance.

I'd never heard of Davosa until your post. I must say that I'm not really a fan of these kinds of watches though. They all look fairly generic. But then I'm not a dive watch lover either. The Steinhart's have a good reputation for quality and vfm as do Squale. I believe Squale even made cases for rolex in the past. Also have a look at the Precista range on timefactors.co.uk. Hope this helps and hasn't just confused things for you.

Just to confuse things even more. This Seamaster from a reputable seller doesn't cost that much more and I'd IMHO a nicer watch as it looks a little less generic.

That SMP is a quartz, but will probably still hit a grand by the time the auction is over.

I think Peasant bought a diver watch which was the exact same as a Davosa, but with a different brand on it - and paid about half the price. I'll see if I can dig out the link.

Thanks both for the replies, I used to be a big fan of the seamasters but if I was going that route I'd go Planet Ocean style. I've had a thing about subs for a long time, I have the funds to purchase one but I was thinking that living with a homage for a while might be better. There's a Davosa on e-bay for 400 euro, but like you guys I'd never heard of them until I did some research. They seem to be a German brand and to your point Eoin, seem to use some generic parts for their version.

My concern is that I was hoping that if it helped make my decision I'd sell it on but that might be difficult given the lack of brand recognition.

Steinharts divers tend to sell very quickly, if resale is a consideration. I might be selling my Ocean Vintage Military, if that's the sort of thing you like.

Seiko and Orient have some divers in that price range

    Orient Mako range

I have an O1B from Steinhart and looking to put a rubber strap on it. Love it

The watch brand that was practically the same as that Davosa but about half the price was quondam I think! I wanted to get one with orange accents but by the time I got round to it they were gone and the black version had risen in price. Think the reputable eBay guy selling them at the time is all out now. Eta 2824, looked like a nice solid diver

Why spend so much on a homage if all you want to do is test drive it for an eventual purchase of the real thing?

Get yourself an Invicta 8926 !

Yes, it's got that ugly INVICTA stamp on the side but other than that it's preeetty close to the original with a good Seiko engine inside ...and the main selling point ...it comes up on Amazon for really cheap every now and then ...I got one for 72 quid :D(not for myself I hasten to add)

    not my picture ...obviously

Mass production isn't a bad thing if continuity of quality is maintained, I suppose I was looking at buying one from the perspective that I'll have it for life so while initial investment maybe high, return on investment will be good..........hopefully

Isn't that exactly what people were saying about the property market? I know, crazy thing is that I'd like one too.

In fairness you're not really comparing like with like. But they are nice. I think I've jut made up my mind to go for the real thing.

    Thanks again.
