The Sab Triple Tuner was recently recommended to me as the best device on the market to combine Freesat (UK Free-To-Air channels via satellite) and Saorview (via aerial).

    Any opinons? Any alternatives?

    Kind Regards,

Freesat is not merely "UK free-to-air channels via satellite". It includes a number of other features, most notably a 7-day EPG, that are broadcast on streams that can only be accessed by licensed receivers.

There are no Freesat combi receivers.

All streams can be viewed by any box. You do not need MHEG to access them, that is just a linking system.

To the OP. The SAB is released in various guises, Amiko version seems to be quite popular.

I'm not talking about the "red button" video/audio streams. I mean the data for the EPG, automatic channel updates etc.

Really? So this is not a Freesat combo receiver? I have been led to believe that it has twin satellite tuners and a tuner for Saorview and that these would be an effective replacement for my existing setup.

Currently I receive UK FTA channels through a dish and an old Pace Sky digibox, and Saorview through aerial and a Xoro box.

    It get messy.

I'd love to have one device to rule them all.

This is the usual triple-tuner spec., yes.

Doesn't make it Freesat though. If it's a Linux box, there will be other ways of accessing EPG etc.

7 day epg is grabbed over the air from Sky's openepg transponder. Its done in the background.

Channels are kept up to date by an Automatic Bouquet List Channel updater plugin.
